Oil 0w20

Anybody have any experience running 0w20 in their truck? I'm here in Jacksonville, NC. I know 0w40 is the standard. Will running 0w20 ruin the motor? No mods besides CAI.

The factory recommended engine oil viscosity is 10w-30 for the SRT-10. 0w-20 is a full viscosity grade lower (thinner). If youre concerned about cold weather performance, try 5w-30.

That be funny cause mine truck came with instructions to run Mobile One 15-50---only. Guess some of the trucks aint as hot (read as fast) as others. Or maybe they got a Hemi instead of a VIPER under the hood.

All of the above are bad suggestions.

Factory fill is Mobil1 0W40 Great for cold weather start ups (0W) and more than enough protection without parasitic losses at full engine temperatures even out here in Arizona.

Cheers!

Hmmm, 132,800 miles says I am correct with 15-50.

It's not that you are "Incorrect", your just not optimal.
You will always want to run the LOWEST viscosity oil possible in an engine to allow proper bearing cooling and still maintain 10 psi per 1000 RPM. Also, 15W in cooler climates will discourage quick oil flow upon start up. Even though Mobil1 is an excellent product. Hell, I would run 0W30 if I was not in Arizona
You are in Texas correct? Drive it daily or regularly (every 4 days or less)? 15W50 will work just fine. You will gain some parasitic drag and nominal oil heat at a sacrifice of some H.P. No big deal. Besides, other than being aluminum with cast iron sleeves, an LA based engine with two extra cylinders is nothing special or exotic. I had 200K on my 5.2 96' Dakota before I sold it.

Cheers!
