RC Tuning

I know what tuning did for my quad cab. With this RC, since it's a stick - what primarily will the tune cover? fuel, spark curves? Is there torque management on the manual transmission? Which tuners are forum members using with best results?

You won’t get much from a tune on a stock RC. There is no torque management on the manual transmission. Your go to’s are Chris Jensen or Torrie for tuning.

The significant difference with a tune in an RC is a custom tune. The "canned" and stock tunes are pig rich. Look at most dyno graphs of an RC or even a QC for that matter and notice how a rich tune (which is safe for the engine and Cats) will nose over after peak torque @ 4,250. As the A/F ratio heads south too 10:1 so does the horsepower. Getting a tuner like Torrie to custom tweak your tune will get the A/F up to 12.7:1 which is still rich enough for safe operation, yet allows the engine to make great horsepower (which is really a wider torque band) all the way to maximum safe RPM (not the limiter). Combine that with a good 3" exhaust, TB, mandatory large catch can under vacuum and a couple more degrees of timing and now your top end rush is just as strong as the legendary low RPM torque that starts at 1500. Leave the engine fat and you leave peak thrust above 5K on the table. See the graph below. This engine has a B&B exhaust, TB and a UD pulley. Note how the A/F is too rich overall, but starts to turn down even more rich after 5,250.....

Cheers!

Great Info !!

Manufacturers have to consider "that guy" that might be pulling a boat up a mountain with a QC full of passengers on a 100F day (A/C ON) with 1/2 tank of Premium and 1/2 a tank of Mid-Grade 'cause that's all that was available on the way to their favorite fishing hole.

There is considerable power in tuning. My own QC. brand-new was 384 wheel with an A/F 10.0. It has come a considerable distance since then!

I run mine a little lean (13.0) but careful tuning and "larger than needed" injectors keep all the parts inside the block.

Fine tuning and experimentation takes time, patience and a little $$. It depends what you want to achieve in the end.

10-4. got it. So it's Torrie at "Unleashed"? What ever happened to Dave Kaspar? He's not doing it anymore? Sorry last one - Is it SCT or Diablo device?

I obtained my SCT tuner from Torrie at Unleashed. That promoted support from him. Along with my AEM wide-band readouts, data logging and ambient conditions, Torrie was easily able to dial in my tunes.

Cheers!

Torrie is with Unleashed Tuning. And it is a SCT tuner not Diablo. Not sure what SCT is doing at the moment business or R&D wise though, being hit with a lawsuit must have almost brought them to a halt but I may be wrong.
