Sub

Has anyone replaced their sub (same box)? If so what did you buy and did it make a difference?

I wanted to leave the box in stock trim so I modded the box to hold a 12" sub. It works very well with the 12" sub in it. Now if you are excpecting this to work like a custom box with a 12" sub forget it. The box does not have enough space to really bump like a custom box but it is more than enough for me.

I wired a 800 watt amp to the box and tuned it from there.

Hope this helps
Steve Austin

You can pack the box with fiberglass....and get alot better sound out of the factory one. There is a box that fits the other side of the QC in order to run dual sub's

I did this and couldn't tell a difference in sound. Now my sub cover is loose and rattles. I can't get it on tight enough.

I did this and it made a big difference. The bass sounds a lot tighter. Before the box would rattle but now all I get is good sound out of it.

If it moves but shouldn't, use Duct Tape. If it doesn't move but should, use WD40.

I have a 12" from my old truck with the amp still. How did you mod the box?

I would love to put my JL Audio in the original box, and run my Pioneer Head and Amp.

I did, I put a Alpine Type R 10" DVC, and packed the box with pillow stuffing. I had to make a trim ring, and cut off the stand off in the bottom of the box.

I then replaced the stock amp with a Alpine MRD-300 Mono.

The difference was phenominal. But the stock equalization really borks things up... but it was 50% improvement. Deeper, and tighter base.

I can take some pics of the install and post them..

It was just regular ole Owens Corning pink fiberglass insulation. I happened to have a roll of it in the shop so that's what I used. I've also heard that you can use hobby batting. The white fluffy stuff that looks like snow. You can get that at Walmart back in the fabric area. One bag is all you'll probably need and it won't leave you scratchy like the fiberglass.
