Trying to come back to the 10! Need some advice!

Hey guys, havent been too active on site since I sold my 05 RC in 2006. I'm getting ready to buy a 2004 RC this week or next. Right now, there's 2 I have an eye on. Just want your guys professional, crazy, and usually way off advice!!

1. 2004 RC Silver with 54k miles. 3 owners, $18,000 (private seller) Completely stock, very clean. NY truck (salt)

2. 2004 RC Red with 73k miles. 1 owner, $17,000 (dealer, tax, title tax inc in deal) Has exhaust, tonneau, also very clean. NC truck, service records.

The red one is closer, but the silver has 20k less miles. Im buying this truck for a toy mostly. My first was a daily driver.

Stay away from northern trucks. I work on automobiles for a living and there is no end to rust and extremely expensive to fix 20k extra miles is nothing compared to 50k northern miles. Even factory corrosion protection doesn't hold up there. Just my opinion
 
The NY truck was orginally registered in MD, but spent its last 3 years in NY. So im guessing its been around 3 NY winters. I grew up in upstate NY, so I know that the northern trucks get eaten up quickly!
 
the NY truck there is no way to know until you see the truck in person. my truck has been in NY for 4 years. but it also gets put int he garage and stored all winter and hasnt seen salt. but if they drove it during the winter the salt will eat it up.

I agree 100%. I live in MA but my truck is garaged from Nov to April. Seeing how the truck only has 50k on it, it def wasnt a primary driver so maybe it was also stored in the winter!
 
Here is my opinion. For what its worth. I owned an 05. When i was shopping for my second truck I looked at a few 04's. Instead of buying "up" I felt like i was buying down. The brakes are worse, the 4.11's made it feel lazy, and it was like i was just buying a lesser truck than the one i got rid of. When i bought my 06, it felt "fresh". It had a different look, and different interior. They are more rare, and i got a limited edition. Much happier.
 
Thanks Jeff. I know all about the brake issue, but didnt think about the gear ratio. It's been 6 years since I had my 10 so anything will be fresh to me!
 
The 06 has a bigger sway bar, and feels flatter in a corner. It is a little bit heavier, but i love my factory bed cover and my head unit is much better. In dash 6 disk changer with nav and bluetooth.

My wife is going out of town this weekend. What day are you going to ny, if I'm done putting my truck back together we can cruise up there to take a look at your new truck. I'll drive you there and you can drive it back if you buy it. Shoot me a pm if interested.

Got back last night with the truck. My Titan did really well pulling it. About 300 miles one way trip. So happy with it. I sold my red RC in 2006 and never thought I'd own another. Its great to see out in the driveway. Havent had a chance to clean her up and take good pics. Here are a few of it on the trailer yesterday.

Completely stock, with 54k miles. Got a great deal. Very clean truck. Just like all you guys, im ready for a few mods. Just got to save the $$ back up. I want to lower it, exhaust, intake, paint the handles and replace the mirrors. Just to start.

Glad to hear man. It is a great feeling getting back behind the wheel of one. Would have rode with you guys but I was in the middle of partial tear down all weekend. Was a bich.
 
Congrats man. Looks like you are like an hour and a half south of me and like two other guys. We should get together sometime.
