I believe they are mainly for aerodynamics. Too much turbulent airflow through that grill is not good. Also, the stock airbox get all its air from the fenderwell. Much cooler than underhood air.
I got a Monroney label for my wife's car and it was accurate. I got one for my 2005 CE and there was no mention of the CE as an option package. It wasn't offered as a choice in the editing section, and white was not an available color option.
I actually called Tremec and asked what they recommend. I was told that the OEM was the officially approved fluid, but "a lot of guys use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF" and it works very well. So that is what I used.
