Wider Rear Tires (Much Wider)

OK, Roz-SRT has got my juices boiling again...he has proposed a wicked looking truck in his future...in his design he has proposed really wide rear tires.

All of you tire wizzards...lets come up with a way to have really wide rear tires that fit in our wheel wells with minimal body work...what's needed and how wide can we go?

Maybe a group buy...anyway we could come up with rims that look like stock but will mount the wider rubber? How about it tire vendors?

The only way would be to start changing out suspension or bodywork.

To go inward - leaf spring issues and frame

Going outward - Starts looking funny, need to widen-out the fenders.

Only thing I can think of, might be to cut the rear bed fender, and widen it, but then you still have an issue with leafs in the way

You could always 4link / coilover and then you could fit some!

But then the main issue is going to find a 335 or fairly wide tire in a 22"...

Those are the problems I see. That's what would have to be done. A 4L and coil-overs. Plus finding a tire that size, or paying for a custom one off tire. You could alter the offset of the wheel, but not much.

Having the wheels widened would be "simple", doing the body work to the bed would be "simple".

Its the damn rear leafs being the major PITA!

Yeah what he said on the suspension, I suppose you could put dually or modified dually fenders on but the right way would be to do a 4-Link like Jack did. The tire solution is pretty simple:

I want to maintain 22" of rolling glory.

I wouldn't want to alter the bed-side in any way, unless it was to roll the fender lips.

Got any pics of Jack's 4-link?

Too much grief for something most won't notice not to mention my truck tracks like a whore now I can't even imagine a 335 or bigger on there!!

He posted some pictures a few months ago, try a search if that doesn't work, I'm sure he'd be willing to post them again...with his set up you won't have to modify the outside, but the inside will require tubs.

Ok, no one is allowed to come up with a way to widen our wheels within the next 2 years. I just had mine coated, and I don't feel like modifying them, only to have them coated again.

Too easy drill sargeant, order 2 20" ones for the rear, have them widened then coated and put your 22" ones up for future reference or in case you scratch a front one...see how easy it is to spend someone else's money?

I had my 22's widened 2 inches to the inside which makes them 11.5 wide with 325 proxes on them. I have about 3/4 inch to the leaf spring. That is the widest 22 out there.

This is simple and relativly easy to do, just relocate the springs rear mount to the inside of the frame rail, then also the front, a new braket will have to be fabbed for the front side, taking into consideration the fuel tank onthe drivers side,
then mini tubs can be fabbed into the bed, you can have the stock 22's widened but the best result would be going to a 20 and have it widened.

and yes movin the springs is easy, for anyone with common mechanical sense and a little "real" experience and not just book learning, so find an ol school tool guy, its no problem
