This is what $400 (plus $165 in shipping :motz:) will get ya! Box weighed in at 50 lbs.

I got a ring and pinion gear, shims, nuts, bolts, seals, stickers, instructions, other little metal items, lots of bubble wrap and this big ass metal thingy(says Trac Loc) on it. Is this the carrier? Sticker on the box says "srt diff case".

Install is set for Aug 1.

In that carrier there's supposed to be spider gears and clutches what is the brand name of the carrier?
Did you order a locking diff or a torsen unit?
That carrier is no different than the one you have stock in your truck.

They reuse the stock spider gears is what Devin told me. If thats the same carrier why send me the another one? Heh I am not a mechanic here, I just told them I had an 04 with 4.10's and wanted to upgrade to 4.88's. This is what they sent me. He told me its everything I need except for fluids. He also said that the installer is supposed to check the spider gears for any wear, if they are worn they should be replaced under warranty. Which they are still under warranty.

This is the same kit that Uniboy and others had installed. They paid the same price $400 for the kit. Installation is obviously not included.

Sticker on box says Dana Corp, Spicer. For both the Ring and pinion set and the diff case.

Hey Maui, do you have the part number for all that ? And where did you get them from ? Im beeing lazy here and not doing reshearch :D

Call Unitrax and speak with Devin he is the expert.

Dealer estimated around $500 for install. On Maui we have lots of cool stuff but experts in trannies and rear ends we do not. I know the service mgr from the racetrack and he assured me they had two guys that could handle the job without a problem.

Looks good maui, You wont regret getting these gears. I got to drive mas truck at the track and boy does it feel light with those in there. As far as the carrier being empty, it did throw me off for a second but i remember gearheadbill sayin that with 4.88 you had to change the carrier. good stuff...i'll be gettin mines sometime nextweek.:D :D :D

Yer gonna freakin' love 'em.....:D  :D  :D  :D

Everything in his current carrier gets swapped over to that new carrier. The reason that carrier was included is because the 4.88's (and higher) require the carrier to be spaced over about a 1/4 inch or so to meet the pinion. Spacing the carrier can and has been done but it's not the best way to do that install. Unitrax does not want to cut corners by using the spacer method, so they provide the new carrier ;)

Thanks for chiming in and clarifying that for me David!

I am still undecided on 4.56 or 4.88 gears.I have found an installer for them and the clutch kit.Just need to decide on one or the other.

If you can wait, mine will be installed on Aug 1st. Just do a search on 4.88's. Marc T, droptail, Uniboy and some others all have them and love em.

Ok David. I know that on the Eaton Diffs there are 2-3-and 4 series carriers & you can use 4.XX:1 gears on a 3 carrier and visa-versa as long as the gears are made for that series carrier(thicker or thinner ring gear).
I didnt realize the Spicer diffs & ring gear spacing would change mid series.

Pardon my interuption:eek:

Now that info you posted I don't know much about  I know that the reason the 4.56's fit fine is because they are Dana Corp gears for our specific rear end, the same one's in the 05's and up (a different pinion bearing is needed though). To my knowledge any other gear is not the same (ring gear thickness as you said).
