i was quoted $390.00 for labor for the gear change (5hours x $78.00). i told him i didn't think i needed to install the new bearings that came with the kit (truck has 10,000 mi. on it) he said bearings have to come out any way, does this sound right? he aslo asked which ring gear the truck had...9.25" or 10.5", we have the 9.25"...right?:dontknow: he said it was two hours more labor for the 10.5" ring. what do ya'll think?

If you have 4:10's now the carrier has to be changed also ( 4;10's use a # 1, 4:56 uses a # 2), thus the bearing install. Plus it takes a bit of time and some specialized tools to remove and install the axle drive gears and clutch packs.
The ring gear is 9.75 ". The rear end is a 248RBl

hmmm did my kit come with a different carrier? its a complete MOPAR kit from justin. (i have no idea what a carrier looks like LOL) so $390.00 seems fair? and its no more work really, to slap the bearings in too?

Just be sure they use the correect specs for the 248RBl rear end.

You are welcome sir. Not really hard to do, just takes the right tools and following directions.

Yes they do:D Most dealers recommend 2 bottles as it makes the clutches last much longer.

...we should have swaped gears, I am about to switch to 4.10

sanchoba, dodge does carry it but it is pretty expensive as far as fluids go. I could be wrong but the last time I bought two bottles I think they were over 30.00 a bottle.

The kit I got came with a #2 carrier ( eliminates the need for a spacer) much stonger:rock: looks something like this ( this is from a Dana 30)

I am finally getting my 4.88's in on Monday

When I put the 4.56's in,it cost me about $700 at a stealership

I was quoted $300-$350 for this install

A local guy supposedly can do it really cheaply, but I am not 100% convinced,so I am taking it to a truck/4x4 specialty garage.
