I need help reaching the pasenger side front O2 sensor plug. Any Ideas? That bad boy is on top of the tranny at about the 10:30 position. I tried to reach it from underneath, but no dice. I tried to get in from the driver wheel well, but still could not get my arm in there.

Do I really have to drop the tranny to change a O2 sensor?

Can I just cut the old sensor off and add a new plug? That would make it plug and play for easier maintenance.

Where can I get a stock plug from? MoparConnection?

Well, there is actually a method to the madness on O2 sensor placement. About 10 oclock is the position so liquids don't collect on the sensor and fowl it.

Don't have to drop the tranny.

You could cut the old sensor and add a new one, but I would take out the old one. AND oh yeah, don't buy Bosch sensors.

Any dealer or our forum vendors have them.

Thanks Bone.

I already bought the Bosch sensor. I thought they were the good ones, since they are what come in the AEM gauges.

I was looking to see how you guys are reaching the plug on top of the tranny. I can unplug the other 3 sensors, but I can not rach the passenger front one. So I thought I would just cut off the sensor and add a plug. That would essentially make it a extension cord that the new sensor plugged in to.

I can drop the exhaust, but I do not think that will improve my reach. Getting the sensor out of the bung is the easy part. Is the plug for my harness in a different spot than you guys?

it is the tough one to get to, even on the manual transmissions...... i was able to get mine apart with one hand from under the trans..... don't cut & splice..... good luck......:D

if you lay under the truck the reach your hand up above the trans - with the o2 in hand - this is the only way i have found to get it and insert the o2 sensor

good luck and remember no pain no game - DONT GIVE up

Heed this advice!!. Voltage is how the sensor relays info to the PCM...any splices, shortening or lengthing the wires can cause an increase/decrease in voltage......When I first bought my truck I had trouble getting consistant readings.

After 2 weeks of trying different ideas we found that someone had cut a wire on one of the sensors and spliced it back together.....probably the same guy that installed the Thrush mufflers backwards for the former owner..

i thought it would only matter if you made the wires a redickulis length ? :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Mine had just been spliced back together...caused my left bank of cylinders to run leaner than the right side....
 
well

it's a matter of resistance per length something like Ohm/Ft (i think)

generally speaking if you add a foot of wire you won't introduce so much resistance to vary the readings, if there's something particular on these trucks it's another story

and any aftermarket extender will introduce as much resistance as an home brew one.

but I'm scared now to extend the wires... will do some research
