I got an interesting offer today. A straight trade: 1998 Durango for an '87 21' Chris Craft Cuddy Cavalier (small cabin cruiser), with trailer.

The boat is in pretty decent shape but needs cleaning and paint. The trailer needs stripped and powdercoated. I'll have more details after I check the boat out on Sunday.

Our only tow vehicle would be my truck ('05 RC).

Tell me why I don't want to do this trade.

Hahahaha, Your Funny!! My wife and I are avid boaters and I can tell you that it open's up a whole new world. Check out some of our favorite places on the internet we go to Lake Shasta everyyear for Memorial Day for 3 weeks http://www.shastalake.com/ this place is heaven on earth for boaters. Next would definately have to be Priest Lake Idaho For Camping and playing http://www.priestlake.com/bigmap.html this place is awesome for serious relaxing. And of course there is my favorite our home where we live http://www.laketapps.com/index.shtml. I would have to say that boating is the way to go Bro!!!!

Ronnie, you're supposed to be talking him out of it LOL. I live on a lake too, and love it. In fact ours is a private lake, makes it all the better.

Within 2 hours, we have access to a couple of the Great Lakes, and there are plenty of resevoirs within 30 minutes of the house.

To the south of us, and a bit further away, are some nice lakes in KY, TN and NC. I love driving, so that's not a big deal.

Ronnie- what does insurance run on a small boat like this?
Any guesses on average maintenance costs?

Youa re a fucking moron if you buy a boat......

how is that.....:D
Such a compelling argument, packed full of details and information.
And a bonus typo.
:D

No, no, no! You are supposed to talk him OUT of it! :D

I am not much help either I am afraid. I would make that trade in a minute. Unless there was something definitely wrong with the Chris Craft.

My boat is a bit different, but my full coverage runs me about 500 a year. I have a 21' Tige competition ski boat with a 350 in it and direct drive.

Do you know what Lk. Erie will do to a boat?
:stupid:
You'll spend more time cleaning it than I do my truck!:aetsch:

The worst mistake I ever made was buying a boat. The best decession I ever made was to sell the damm thing.

My buddy has cabin at Priest Lake, one of the best lakes I've been to, 4th of July up there is a good time.

Boats a load of fun I can go out for an afternoon and forget about all my problems and stresses. My girl doesn't like it when I go without her but I have never had a bad day at the lake, it always a good time. I'm in the same situation as OCBob having a wakeboard boat, but Chris Craft makes a good quality boat and if you find its not for you, you can sell it. Boats tend to hold their value quite well. I don't think this is exactly talking you out of it but hope it helps.

I have a friend who swears that boat is actually an acronym for:
Bust Out Another Thousand !! (He is speaking of repairs and upkeep of course)

The two happiest days of a boat owner.....the day they buy it and the day they sell it. If you dont mind throwing cash into the toliet then buy a boat !!! Otherwise dont do it. I had a 45' Sea Ray for several years.....ahhh the Ferraris's I could have purchased for all the bullshit costs of "Marine" parts, labor, insurance, slip fee's, tax'es, fuel, cleanings, maint, etc, etc, etc, etc...;) You have to throw in a few extra etc....if you own a boat :D

ntw0rk and mmmmtorque seem to have the right track for you. You will not find a whole lot of marine mechanics owning more than a center console or 15 to 22 foot boat. We learn from our customers and we are still shaking our heads as to why somebody would waste the kind of money boats cost for what? a couple of hours of fun and then guess what? something fails or breaks. One of my customers bought a brand new Cavilier Sport Fish (one million dollar boat) works on it constantly, and I've worked on a steering system leak already. I would not piss away any amount of money on a (Break Out Another Thousand) boat. Stratdaddy's definition of a boat: A hole in the water in which one tosses large amounts of money and time never to be recovered. I hope I did not offend anyone but sometimes you got to hear the troof!
