I need help diagnosing a vibration/hum that started this weekend.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwK8oy8JiE4&feature=youtube_gdata_player]Weird Vibration - YouTube[/ame]

Any ideas?

Doesn't get worse with rpm? Didn't happen after you "hypothetical" 1-2-1 shift did it?

It doesn't change with RPM. The sound is constant even as the RPM's climb.

I never made a 1-2-1 shift, but I did and forgot about it, hypothetically, it would have been last year.

How about parked in the driveway in neutral?

Nope, doesn't do it while stopped or in neutral. The vibration starts over 1500 RPM. It IS intermittent. The video I posted was the third or fourth one I took while driving home from work. It didn't do it during the first couple videos.

Just going to throw this out there. But I remember those aluminum oil filter that made a noise due to some rubber flap or something in there. So maybe a oil filter that came apart on the inside ?

Interesting! I'll do a little research to see if I can dig up more info on that!

Sorry but i don't hear it. but... if it isn't speed related then it isn't driveshaft or output shaft related. it has to be engine related. maybe pressureplate ? does it change with load?

Exactly right. It has to be engine rpm related so that pretty much eliminates anything in the driveline. I didn't hear it in the video either but just brainstorming common problems, did you check the crank pulley bolt? Just a thought. I had the crank pulley come off of my first truck and it had a weird vibration prior to the pulley coming off.

I watched my video again and realized that unless my sound was turned way up, I couldn't hear the noise either. I'll try to get a better video on my way to work this morning.

Good thoughts on the crank pulley and something coming loose in the exhaust. I'm headed out to check the pulley now.

It does not change under a load.

I've sprung a pressure plate and it does give off a bad vibration. It was noticable in neutral with CLUTCH OUT about 3000RPMs on mine. If speed related check rear end, driveshaft, output shaft, and input shaft. Tire out of balance? :D

Listen to the 1:15 mark in the video. I'm cruising at 1750 RPM and there is a distinct hum. I press in the clutch, the RPM's drop (1:16 in the video), and at 1:17 the hum is gone. You will need to turn the volume up to hear all this because the dummy that made the video wouldn't shut up so you could hear the truck.

The vibration/hum only happens when the truck is warm. I got it to do it on my way to work this morning and here is what I noticed: It does it regardless of if it is in neutral or in gear. As long as I am rolling and the RPM's are up over about 1500ish.

Still have the oem exhaust manifold heat shields? They can vibrate at a certain rpms

Man do the easy things first...change the oil filter to the black chrysler one...put back in 0w40 m1 oil...change tranny fluid with 3 qt atf+4...change differential fluid...IF that dont take care of the noise it could be throw out bearing...clutch or tranny related. OR run the **** out of it and fix what breaks...
