Chemically stripping factory finish off valve covers

Looking at refinishing my valve covers this winter and wanted to know if anyone has ever tried to chemically stripped the factory red finish off? I have full access to my parents restoration/body shop to do this so access to the stripping chemicals is not an issue.

Yessir you can use a peeler but be careful as it magnesium not aluminum and I can tell you don't sand blast them. :burnout:
 
Send them to JMB for powdercoat and clearcoat. He did mine years ago and they are still like new. Well worth the cost and won't scratch like paint and hold up to heat better.

Depending on the mag metal mix id be cautious when stripping them, there may be a stripper that lists magnesium as suitable...
