Have you really dialed in any real good runs through the 1/4 with that much HP? If so what is your trap mph?

We totally overthink this gearing thing. The rule of thumb should be to match the tire size to the gear ratio, so that you are running through the traps at the top of 4th. Bigger HP trucks can run a bigger tire, and thus use a taller gear. The reason short gears don't work on the track is that they require a shift to 5th gear prior to crossing the line.

I might be able to help you out in a couple weeks. I plan to be around 825 - 850 whp. Suppose to be going to the dyno this week and the track this week or next. Currently the truck has 4.56 so I'll let you know how it goes. Depending on where I run out of gear I will be going back to the 4.10s or 3.73s

You are running a TH400, correct? What tire are you planning on using? How much RPM do you want to run?

Can the '04 rear with the 4.10 be swapped out with the '05-6 with 4.56's or is their more to it ?

Hang on, I've seen this asked before. Let me see if I can dig up that thread for you. :D

LOL! No. It's an inside joke. Often, the first thing a new guy will come on here and ask is questions regarding gear swaps. When that happens, I sometimes bump a dozen or so old threads, to encourage them to use the search function. In your case, I think asking a gear swap related question in an active thread about gear swaps makes sense.

Oh, and to answer your question directly, yes. You can install shorter gears in your factory 4.10 housing. The consensus is to call Devin at Unitrax (http://gounitrax.com), and he will get you everything you need.

M&H 32 X12 slick and I'll be shifting at 5800 RPM when the nitrous turns off. I'll run it out to 6000 without nitrous

You shouldn't need a taller gear. 5800RPM, with 4.10's, and a 16" tire radius, will get you 134mph through the traps. That's fast enough to run low 10's.

Talk to Devon at unitrax. He sells a complete kit. But you do need a different pinion bearing

No over drive. The unknown factor is what don't know what gearing is in the TH400

Let me rephrase my question ; it seems at times the grass is greener and the 4.10 guys want 4.56's and peeps making more power wanna go the other way....sooo if was just an easy swap, could someone potentially just find another member with the different ratio and it would be easy peasy to switch em ??

The whole rear that is ....
