Good Afternoon Gents,

I'm in the market for an Srt10 Ram and I've seen some "high milage" but clean trucks. I'm used to the traditional v-8 and I do most of my maintenance myself so my first question is, is tHere any major difference between the v-10 design other than the extra cylinder. What are some problem areas with these trucks so I know what to ping the owner on when I get a chance to question him. Is 58,000 miles a bit much for one of these trucks?

Thanks in advance.

The traditional v8 fires left right left right. The v-10 fires 2 cylinders at same time. Essentially a dual inline 5 cylinder. They are a bitch to tune, as few as you can count on one hand are trusted on our trucks. They dont respond well to bolt ons, however getting rid of the rear or all 4 cats is worth the effort. 750hp seems to be the limit with power adders before you have to spend alot more money forging the block.

58 isnt much at all. Depending on the truck and mods, ive seen that mileage go for 18-22k. Ive been shopping weekly for over 18 months since i sold my last one. It had over 115k miles when i sold it.

60k miles is nearing time for an expensive routine maintenance. Second set of plugs, wires, trans fluid swap, rear diff maybe powersteering, radiator, brake if your anal. You can do it yourself or take to dealer for 600 bucks.

Quad cabs have auto's and thats around the time to get the bands adjusted. Same maintenance otherwise.

Problem areas..... Third gear grind when shifting at high rpm. Hard to get into reverse or popping out of gear. Also note, they have noisy engines, a lot of valve noise and loud injectors nothing to worry about.

Whatever you decide to get, post it, some pics, and see if its been registered in the viper truck registry, you might can find where it came from. Also there are alot of members willing to look at or test drive it for you.

Finally, dont just shop local. Shop on this forum, from members that have been around for a while. Or like i said have someone here look at it for you. If you can find the deal, it is worth getting a one way ticket and drive it home. I did so. Chicago to florida 2 months ago.

Oh yeah. Get one with all the mods you would be interested in doing. You will inevitably want to modify it. its expensive. And sellers dont normally get extra for the mods. Win win for you. If forced induction is your thing, risky business, but again, buying from a member here you will know what your getting. I would be weary buying a FI from a stranger.

wow you hit the nail on the head as far as the price. That was better than I expected.

One last questions. I have a mustang that i take to a couple of racing events from time to time, Ive read a few other post on "towing" and i realize the clutch is said to be the weak point in the drive-train. What would you give the truck on a scale of 1-10 in the towing category? Its just a foxbody mustang and a simple open trailer.

I wouldn't go past 600hp on a stock bottom end, but that's just me:confused:

Welcome to the VTCoA:rock:

Thank you Gentlemen. I appreciate our help. I have an appointment to view my potential truck on Thursday.

I towed a three axle 28ft yacht about 30 miles from dry dock to storage across town. It did fine. There are some threads with pictures of these trucks hauling equipment some haul trailers daily as a work truck. Racecars and some other crazy stuff. No worries. Tongue weight is pretty important but if the load is balanced and you drive sensibly your gtg.

I just rolled my 06 QC over on 63k miles and its going strong and runs like a champ! Catches 2nd and sometimes 3rd while shifting. I'm near time to get all my fluids swapped and bands tightened, but I've had no issues with mine. I bought it having 56k miles and the only "major" thing I've had to replace was my front rotors and brake pads. GLWB!! If you have any questions please feel free to ask away. There is ALOT of knowledge on this forum and these guys will be more than willing to help you out! WELCOME TO THE VTCOA!!

I bought my truck on this forum and i think it was one of the smartest things i did alot of good people on this forum. I bought my truck 100% site unseen. And people at home still can't believe my truck is 5 years old low miles now 21500miles. Good luck with your truck hunting!

I bought Roadkill's Nightrunner from California after lurking on this forum for years i finally joined and in the Buy/Sell section i advertised i was looking for a Quad Cab NRT. And Roadkill had the low mile truck i was looking for. A few members jumped on board and backed Roadkill up so i felt like i was buying with confidence.

Welcome and good luck on finding one.

Took me a while to find one. I got mine from a member on here (Troy's QC SRT) who posted before I did. LOL

Also this is good place and a lot of info on here.

I lurk from time to time here.. glad to see that my old truck went to such a good home! If your buying long distance, just make sure to do your homework so that you don't get ripped off. When i bought my Viper, i got myself a round trip ticket and an appointment to the viper mechanic, but i am just the paranoid type.

Hey Bruce how's it going long time no talk. Just saying Hello love the truck so far 100% no regrets the funny thing about the truck is how much my wife enjoys driving it. If you have your wife on board you can pretty much buy any toy.;)
