Is anyone running 488's? I felt like there was a noticeable difference between my buddys 04 with 410's and my 06 obviously with 456's. wondering if its worth trying them out? I like to play with my truck but Im more of a street than a 1/4 mi guy. If anyones running them please let me know what you think street or strip!!!

Since you already have the 4.56s I would spend my money on something else. Not worth the hassle.

They have a point, 4.56 to 4.88 isn't a big gap, but you could always go lower, hell you can get gears as low as 7.17 for the Dana 60 if you wanna be crazy.

I have ran all three. The 4.88's are fun especially on the street but the 4.56's are better all around.

Ok thanks guys. I just didn't know if that little diff would make just enough of a change to get out of the hole a lil better without havn to slip the clutch so much. Then again once I get my ass to the strip, I also dont want to run out of 4th gear with 488's

i ran 4.88,s ,,they are great if that is the only mod you are going to do ,,,

they are great for in town driving way less shifting and a tad better mileage, just because you can get to higher gears faster and less shifting ,,great for climbing hills ,,
but if you do any mods to get way more power they start to hurt performance a bit

I just installed them on my QC, little difference to me but it did help at the track. Got other little gremlins I'm working on but sounds like you have a RC so my info might be useless. My opinion would be to install them if you plan on racing, if not, go 4.56. If you want gas mileage "LOL" stay with the 4.10's.

I have them. It was a huge improvement over the stock 411's. Except at the track my traction was even worse and couldnt even improve over my stock times. But for daily driving they are fantastic. They are great in bumper to bumper traffic too.

I have an '04 and went from 4.11's to the 4.88's too. I have to say, I love them. Virtually no slipping of the clutch taking off from lights, and it makes 6th gear somewhat more useable in non-highway driving. That being said if you are coming from 4.56's then, of course, it won't be that much of a difference, but I would imagine it would be almost as much of a difference from your buddy's truck to your truck (a little bit less, though). Like others have said, if you aren't planning any other big mods, then you shouldn't run out of gear on the strip with 4.88's.

I have 4.56's in my 2004 RC, I was using M&H drag radials which are 29.5" tall compared to our stock tires at about 31.5" tall. I am just about to the rev limiter as I cross the finish line in the 1/4 mile @ 118 mph....I would have to use 5th gear if I had 4.88's. If you will never race the 1/4 mile then 4.88 gears would be fun on the street. I figure with the shorter race tires, I'm at about 4.90 effective ratio.

Good info Jerry, Thanks.

What rpm does its cut out at? Did u bump ur rev limiter? My 06 with 456's cuts out @ 120 @ 6000rpm, so I figured it would hit 6000 @ about 110-112...???

I've gone through the traps at 110 and didn't hit the limiter but, that was on street tires. Have recently had my limiter bumped to 6300 but, haven't been to the track in awhile so I don't know what it will do now. Hopefully will have some new times soon.

I believe my rev limiter is reset at 6200 rpm. Factory is at 6050 I think.
