Selling a vehicle overseas

I have an interested party in buying my truck, and although I am very happy to have someone interested in buying it, I am also very cautious. He is from Germany and has agreed to a price, and has agreed to paying for shipping, and all of that.

My question is that if anyone has had any experience with selling a vehicle to someone overseas, and if so, how did the process work?

I have been requested to give my bank routing information in order for him to wire me the money. He has said that I would be signing the title over to the shipping company that will be picking the truck up at my facility, and shipping overseas, and they handle whatever titling transfer once it is there.

My banker has said "stay away", if it sounds too good to be true, than it probably is. I don't want to loose out on the sale though if he is an actual buyer though.

I am cautious with the number of scams out there, and just can't afford to get taken on this.

Anybody with help, suggestions or advice, please chime in.

Thanks, Chris

P.S. The buyer is a VTCOA member, and seems to be somewhat active in the forum.

Stay away!!! It's a scam! I've had the same exact scenarios in the past with the party wanting me to do the same exact thing except this buyer was from Nigeria. Same exact instructions.

draw up a simple contract, have he and you both sign it.
go to the bank, have him wire the money with you standing there.
bank will confirm it's clear.
the shipping company does not need to be the owner, HOWEVER there will need to be a "shipper of record"
once he pays the truck, and you sign the title, it's a done deal.

i would have him pay, then sign the title then overnight it or next day the title to him... proof that it's his truck now. the shipping company doesn't need a title to ship a vehicle that i'm aware of... only proof that it is who's and what it's supposed to be.

when we sell overseas, the title (if there is one) and "risk of loss" (i.e. if someone steals the truck before it gets shipped) are transferred to the buyer AT THE TIME OF PAYMENT. so he better insure it before he pays you... the shippers don't need to see the title of the eqiupment... only have a exportation document filled out by the shipper of record (which has to be someone with residence in the country of origin)... so if it ships from the USA, you have to live in the USA,or have an entity, or otherwise, that is in the USA...

all that make sense?

did you read that the guy is an active member on this forum...and scoobert sold his truck to germany no problems!!!

and i wouldn't automatically assume it's a scam... people sell all over the world every day...

just do your due diligence... if not, then well... you get what you deserve...

i am from overseas and bought the ten from a vtcoa member.... and last year a engine for my mercury... for a money wire he/she needs you bank's name, your account No etc... Make sure all cost are on his behalf, otherwise you pay a little fee to accept the money.

what you've writen here seems ok, including the title issue.

I would be happy to act as middle man if you're interested...

just stay away from western union etc... cash from EU account to US account shouldn't be a problem.

you could also recommend middle man in US. I worked with usa2ned and   Welcome to Oyola-Luiijf.com (February 9th, 2011 Last Update) Oyola Luiijf Inc can help you to find, buy, transport cars boats motorcycles and a lot of other articles from USA to any country in the World. Find your boat, car or motorcycle in the USA before when buying from seller who are reluctant to accept overseas deal...

Thanks guys, I talked again with another manager at the bank advising me to set up a new account (not use my daily use account) for free and transfer into that. Once the money is there, transfer out. Close account. Done deal.

Viperhauler, you rock. I appreciate your advice.

I want to sell, but definitely don't want to be taken.

I would not be scarred of a buyer from Germany and especially a member on here. I came into contact with a German resident through this forum. He wante dto buy my exhaust and I was very skeptical at first. I had him email me outside of the forum and talked a few times. He was a straight shooter and wired me the money for the exhaust and and extra $150 for shipping and handling. 2 years later I have developed a great business relationship with him all over the internet. I ship him Dodge Rams to Germany and some older collector cars. I've done about 5 transactions with him in the past few years and not once has either of us got burned.
Now if it was someone on a business trip away in China or Africa and they want to send a cashiers check plus $5000 extra for your troubles and blah blah blah, that is a scam and stay away.

If you have any concern you can PM me for advice or questions.

Also in regards to Viper hauler post about signing the title, I would ask the buyer first. I know in Germany it's a bit different and one time I signed the title and it created a world of problems for him in Germany and customs. Another time the title wasn't signed and he had to jump through hoops again. A good start would be to call Riekens Shipping they are very knowledgable about the rules and customs with automobiles to germany. Also shipping from Florida to the large port in Germany (bermanhaven or something like that is about $1000) Actually here is my guys number Christoph (310)9265511 is his work cell (323)645-4244 office line. He can help you!

Have a trusted member from Germany meet the guy face to face and that will make sure the deal is legit and then you won't have to be worried about a scam.

I'm from New Zealand and purchased my truck from a guy/semi-known poster off a cuda-challenger.com forum. He was located in Lincoln, Nebraska. At the end of the day, the buyer from Germany is taking the most risk, without a doubt. You have the truck and like any seller, the truck should not leave your possession until you have 100% cleared funds in your account. The guy buying it has paid $2#,###(?) worth to someone in another country he doesn't know from a bar of soap and at one stage in the process, you'll have both the truck and cash in your possession, so you are definitely in the driver's seat. Simply look at getting him to do a bank to bank international (wired) transaction. Once the funds are clear, let him know the truck is ready to be collected.

I had to do my own research and found a Kiwi shipper based in the USA (LA), get him to collect it by truck, truck it to LA, put it in a container then ship it off to NZ. Ain't no walk in the park getting these trucks from overseas, big $$$ (especially if you have to do a RHD conversion). Anyhow, work with the guy, make sure you have the money before the vehicle is uplifted and keep in contact with him to inform him of what's going on. A simple email to say the truck has been collected by Joe Blogs Transport and is on it's way to the wharf and should be there by Thursday is a HUGE thing when you're thousands of miles away. Good luck, keep us posted!!

I buy from across the world all the time. There are usually more scams on the "buying" end then on the selling... Wait for the money to clear in your account and you're good to go. Usually a quick call on the phone can establish if someone is shady or not.

I know its not over seas but i sold my old truck to someone in calgary and i'm from ontario. My bank advised that if i could hold the truck for 5 days after the money wire it would forsure be "good" money. Its scarey as hell but their are honest ppl out there.

dont worry friends, the buyer is not scam.:D

i have to clear something with the shipping company,to be on the save side with the export procedere from usa-germany.

it is not my first one what i buy in usa.

but i have heard,it can be a problem if i sign the title with my german adress, that it goes out of state. this is new 01.01.2012 (there is a chevy dealer in ny,he have a yellow fever what i will buy to have the container full, and he know from this new rules for export, and told me on the phone he sells only in us )

i have to clear this, and if all is clear,i send a lot of money, the shipper brings it to ny,then it has to wait for stuff from tony, and then it can go on the boat.

I figured that you would chime in eventually Rob.

I emailed you details about an hour ago. Looking forward to selling you my truck.
