A DCSS is an official notification from a Soldier, other than those in their initial term, having 4 or more years of service for pay purposes at ETS that refuses to take action (reenlist, extend, reenlist and extend) to meet the service remaining requirement (SRR) for an assignment, promotion or school.

This action is required regardless of the SRR start or report date, to include those after the Soldier’s current ETS. Soldiers eligible, but refusing to take action to satisfy military SRRs will be denied further service through the DA Form 4991-R.

    What will happen to you:

    (1) Placed in a non-promotable status.

    (2) Prohibited from reenlistment or extension of enlistment.

    (3) Removed from promotion standing list (if applicable).

    (4) Prohibited from applying for reentry into the Regular Army for a period of at least 93 days if separated at normal ETS, and at least 2 years if voluntarily separated before ETS under applicable provisions of 16-4b AR 635-200.

    (5) Required to receive a rank determination from ARMY G1, if approved for reentry into the Regular Army.

    (6) Prohibited from application, selection, or attendance for commissioning or warrant officer appointment programs while on the current period of active duty.

    (7) Precluded from consideration by ARMY G1 for centralized selection for promotion and/or advanced schooling.

    (8) Eligible to request voluntary separation under the provisions of paragraph, 16-4b AR 635-200.

    (9) May be eligible to join the Reserve Component.

    (10) Eligible for other assignments (CONUS and OCONUS) provided you have sufficient service remaining to meet the requirements of the new assignment.

    (11) Not eligible for separation pay.

Well it only screws you if you change your mind and your so close to ets your not gonna get promoted again anyways unless its in the next 5 months but once your with 12 months of ETs forget about it... I would guess but dont quote me on this that if you sign it and you do pass selection, then SF can over ride that ive seen them pull ppl form deployment to send em to the q course. My advice as a battle buddy would be to sign it if your really not gonna stay in then get out before its too late. if it stops you from doing SF wait your 90 days and come in under sf contract... but thats just me.

We'll its a diffferent selection than SF, SF is my backup incase i don't make what i want.....I'm hoping now to get pulled from this one early, the OML for selection comes out mid June says my recruiter so i'm just waiting now...... I wouldn't sign the dcss until right before i had to report to my new duty station anyway.

No, thank you for the thread revival. I just got my rating of 60% back from the VA. I think I'll be able to get another 10%, but I'm gonna wait till I actually get out to start that fight. I'm sure I'll have some questions, and I had forgotten about this:)

My old man never did anything with the VA after Vietnam. He regrets that now.

My dad is having trouble getting movement on his Claim paperwork submitted over 6 months ago. I dont recall the exact details of where is in the process, however I know he has wrote his congressman.
He took a grenade, still has 10-12 agent orange blisters/worts on his arms that crack and bleed, has various tumors and cancer some removed some still there, hearing loss, and shoulder damage resulting in multiple surgeries, just diagnosed with severe PTSD,

My bro got out of the army about a year ago. He filed his claim with the VA and it took 10 months before he got his back. They're REALLY backed up right now with all of the guys like me going through the MEB process. Hell, I was MEDEVAC'd from Afghanistan 14 months ago, and I'm still not out. Your dad will get back pay from the date the paper work was submitted. My bro is at 100%... 10 months back pay... that's $27k direct deposit:D:rock:

Slow or not, thank God for the VA!
