Suspension Mods For Traction?

What are you running for wheels now and tires? Looks top notch for sure and I'll bet it'll hook as well:burnout:

The tires that will be going on it are Pirelli 385/35R24. No wheels yet - still have to get the mini-tubs done and get the bed back on so I can measure backspacing. Wheels will be a 24"x14" with tons of backspacing if I can get them made. If not I will have to narrow the rear axle.

Here is shot of the new tires compared to stock.

That looks trick! I am surprised you are using the stock "Super 60".... Most of the big HP guys, especially peeps who are going to run them hard, switch to something with more options.

I wouldn't consider this a high HP build at this point. Still running a stock bottom end. The suspension mod started out as just wanting to move the stock leaf springs in towards the frame a couple of inches to get more wheel clearance. After talking with Chris we determined that the most we could get was 2" by doing this. By moving to the ladder bard setup I got over 4" more clearance.

I see. It looks cool, for sure. Do the new tires fit in the stock bedside opening?

Nice Rubber!!!!

The larger tires might fit if you kept the rear suspension high like it is stock. I started to mini-tub the bed so I can fit the tire in under the fender lip and lower it.

Do you have any pictures of those tires in the stock wheel opening?

Just mock ups. Will be a week or two, or three, or four before I get the minitubs done and the bed mounted again so I cant really show how the larger tires will fit until then.

This was before any cuts for the minitub so I couldn't get the tires under the fender lip.

Here is a shot of the mini tub cutout. I basically followed the thread that LittleGiant (?) made for tubbing the bed.

That's TinyGiants and he is a tough act to follow!! Many here love that trucks stance as we will adore yours.:D

I thought TinyGiants was running a stockish height rim and tire? His truck isn't much lower than stock either, is it?

Seethrough, why did the shop use that length ladder bar?

Tiny Giants runs 20" wheels that are like 18" wide with matching tires from Mickey Thompson. I really am not sure how they'd hook but they are fatter than fawk!!! Twice as wide as those pictured!! Well that's exaggerating but you get the point:p

Yea I remember his truck, sickest looking setup from the rear period. I know his tires have to cost a grip!

That's what I thought, they are about stock height. He said the Roe spins them pretty much at will.

Not sure. My best guess would be that the best point to place the front mount is right where the frame makes a bend down so they don't hang too low.

Rims 20" X 16" wide. Tires are 33" X 22" Mickythompson Street Radials.

You need to post more! You and your truck are legendary. I need to go back and re-read the thread about tubbing your truck.

Are you happy with the way the truck performs compared to stock?

Yes and no. Stock it was more reliable. Built it was like every other hot rod. It was in constant need of attention. Did it handle well? That depends on your goal. Those giant tires did not like to turn in the rain. In the dry, it ran like a raped ape. I could spin the tires at 60 mph, but that was not a function of the suspension. That was a function of the torque and the super hard downshift. At the track I never got to fully tune my driving and the suspension. Without tuning I got my 60' down from a 2.0 to 1.8 (by memory forgive me if it is wrong). I was always confident that with tuning and practice It could get down to 1.7 and maybe crack a 1.6 with drag slicks. I was pretty sure that would have gotten me well into the 11's.
