Well, it's been 4 long years since I've had the Charger out. I've always had 2 classics' & I was cruising the 2nd car every summer. It's too hard to do both so one gets shoved up against the wall & the other is driven.

Well I sold the other car, the '71 'cuda, so now it's Charger time. I changed the oil & fired it up couple months ago.

This video is taken by my friend's son with his camera. It could use some more editing.

Anyhoots, the 1st minute is how she sounds normally. Like it's about to die but never does. If I turn up the idle, it doesn't want to turn off so it's where it needs to be. If anything I could use some more stall. The noise you might hear is my vacuum pump kicking on & off. The cam doesn't produce enough for the power brakes. The reason I'm jockeying around is I have to get in the front yard at an angle in order to get out our driveway. That peak is too severe. If someone's with me even in my Magnum it'll bottom out too. And that's on the good side. On rig that clears is the 10.

From 5:08 on we're out cruising. At 5:26 I do a rolling burn out. You can see a green light above my right knee go on. That's the Gear Vendors light. I forgot to kick it off, the OD kicks in @ 45mph but actually we were only doing about 30, the tires were moving a lot faster, lol.

After that initial roller it's pretty boring. I just like the sound of it at the beginning really. Make sure your speakers are turned on. After I drove the car a mile or so, mentally I couldn't figure out why I wasn't driving it anymore.

It doesn't sound anything like our 10s'. :D

Beautiful example mate, real clean. Nice tire squeal too from a roll. Got any more info on the 472 elephant? Is it an over the counter Hemi or did you have it custom built? Iron and alloy block? Hp? Torque? Sounds great! Thanks for sharing. :)

Sounds good mate. :) I'll try again lol, who built it and what's it making for power? Hp? Torque? :dontknow:

It's a MP crate motor. Now before you wig out telling me it's junk it's part # was run & the Mopar tech line said it was one of the 1st groupings of motors built by Cummins. The rest were junk. I like to drive my car hard on occasion. In the 5 years I've run it, it hasn't gotten weaker & is as strong as ever. I remember when I bought the motor it was right after they started building "2nd generation" motors that were "suppose" to be right.

Advertised like 540 HP & 525 ft. lbs torque with single carb. I run the Stage V intake, 2 650 Eddies w/ big headers & sewer pipe exhaust 3", MSD 6al. It winds out like a small block, it's crazy.

I run it on a dyno & it was RW 478 HP & some ungodly # for torque. Their torque #'s for all the cars' were all over the place. Although out of all the cars that day I came in 2nd with the most HP/TQ.

Whoa, no worries mate and no need to put words into my mouth haha it was a simple question. ;) Considering you posted a video on it, you're bound to get gear heads asking questions about who built it and the power it's making. Sounds like pretty decent power. :)

By the sounds of your response, maybe you've had people giving you grief before and wanted to get in first? as that was a little in depth and hardcore of an explanation to someone just asking who built it and the hp? :dontknow: Anyhow, I know some of the older over the counter MP blocks had crappy internals and weren't built properly, just a quality control thing. Nothing a casting # or help desk could determine over the phone. The only way of knowing was a tear down and inspection.

Most guys who got them simply stripped them down a little, triple checked things and away they went, no issues, just sucked they had too do it. MP has gotten heaps better though. But, who cares, yours is running nicely so it's obviously one of the good engines! Have fun and enjoy your elephant!!

When you were trying to figure out who to build your motor I remember the discussions concerning MP Hemis' before you went with Tim so it's not like I shouldn't prepare myself for someone, not just you, bad mouthing the motors. It's a keyboard so it's hard to get a feel for others'. And seriously, when was the last time you heard someone praise a MP crate Hemi? I can honestly say I never have.

Anyone else I wouldn't have prefaced it quite like that. I don't think we've ever conversed but I've read your posts for close to a decade.

I lost track on your adventures. Last I read, you bought a motorless 'cuda & when it's clothes came off it wasn't pretty & you were talking about giving up on a black 'cuda.

You may remember my old 'cuda. It was owned by hotrod98 (Larry). He was active on the challenger-cuda board at one time. His avatar's always been his wife's '73 'cuda, sublime with sublime go wing.

Oh, OK. :) I didn't realise you had seen my initial Hemi stuff (many years ago now) and I wasn't here to start stuff lol, hence the reason I never ever mentioned owing a Hemi and didn't realise you knew of me. Whoa, you have a great memory mate haha, ex/current cop? :D I don't recall the 'Cuda (nice ride!) but I do know of Larry on Cuda-challenger.

Yup, 'Cuda is long gone. Had a terrible hack job resto, looked good but was utter crap. Acid dipped it and it came back like swiss cheese. Was too much for me (young guy) to take on, I can't do body work and would have had to shell out mega $$$ to achieve the standards I desire so I sold it to an older guy who could afford to finish it.

The Hemi is now in the Challenger (currently in conversion) dana 60, xv suspension, stiffening yada yada lol, I'm only several weeks out from finishing it. Again, sorry for any confusion, as you say, it's hard to judge tone from a few words on a PC screen, that's why I always use smiles. :p

Cheers!

I may be hard to keep track of. When I first joined the forums, username was "AllBlueRT" ('70 Charger R/T 4 gear). I used that exclusively on all forums but once I sold it I was kind of lost.

"gottabmopar" for a while

Now it's "rtmike" on forums that it's not in use which isn't very many classic car forums so I go with "472 R/T SE" on most of those.
or "rtmike70"
"rtmike472"

"NW Chefs Fan" on all the fantasy sports I play.

Like you I have/had a nickname. Problem is it's my password for a lot of sites. :D
