I've started to notice a weird vibration at stop lights when cars pull up next to me? It's definitely under the hood and it sounded metal on metal. It's not constant though it comes and goes, I can go a whole trip without hearing it and then a whole trip hearing it. Most of the time though it just comes in go, one light it'll be there and then the next it's not. Anyone have any ideas, I'll try and get a video of it.

It almost sounds like somewhere around the exhaust is vibrating but at the same time I have no idea?

Is it the fan coming on and off?it gets kinda loud sometimes.

I don't think so because it's definitely metal vibrating.

As soon as I start moving it goes away it's only when I come to a stop. My dad suggested it could be something lose rattling around in the cat? It does sound like that. It doesn't sound like its coming from the engine it's further back, almost at the door it sounds like.

I'm gonna keep doing laps around the neighborhood till I pull into the drive way and it's vibrating to try and isolate it.

Not tryn to jinx you but when mine made that noise and I had it checked out it was the flywheel. So you might wanna check that.

tighten the Harmonic balancer bolt. It is probably coming off and the misalignment of the belt is pushing on the tensioner bearing. I found it easiest to remove the belt and then the pulley to get at the balancer bolt.

do you have a magna-flow muff? baffles are known to come loose, mine is making a vibrating/rattle /squeel from time to time.

Ok so today I tried to get it to make noise while I was driving around the neighborhood and I couldn't, got ready for work driving to work and the first light I pull up to it starts the noise so I was like "WTH" then it hit me. While driving it around the neighborhood I had the windows down and A/C off, on the way to work I had the A/C on. So I turned it off and it didn't make a peep for the rest of the way into work. So I think it's gotta be something A/C, also I noticed it's definitely on the right side. Any ideas?

I'll check that anyways

Jeeze I hope that's not it!

No, I'm running all stock right now

If you still have them. It may be the heat shield on the headers. Mine cracked right where it bolts on and would vibrate once it was hot enough. So no noise on short trips. I couldnt hear it unless I was stopped.

So it's definitely not A/C, ran no A/C today to confirm my su****ions from yesterday and it started out good but once it got warm it started doing it again? I'm still about 95% sure it's on my right side. I can only hear it when someone pulls up on my right side, I'm back to my su****ion of something exhaust towards the back of the engine.

I think that could possibly be the culprit, I'm checking today

Check the heat shields on the exhaust ... They tend to break and rattle ..

my pass. side heat shield broke at the back(closest to firewall)and rattled(till I took a big bar and bent it just enough to quit).....prob the culprit !!!!

Does the noise change in any way (pitch, volume, etc.) when the engine is rev'd or at idle? Is the drive belt worn? I'm wondering if the tensioner or idler pulley could be the problem?

No it actually goes away when I start to move again, that or the engine is louder and I can't hear it anymore. It's not there at start-up or for the first part of the drive but as soon as the engine gets hot it starts

Ok after the down pour we had yesterday I finally got to take a peak under the hood this morning and it looks like my heat shield on my right side is on the manifold at one spot. Could this be the source of the vibration?

Yes it could,The heat shields are not welded together very well,And have been known to crack.
