Also, under your 14.5 lb subwoofer is a 10 lb package tray...3 screws. Modify your seat bracket on the passenger side (by cutting)...then with 4 bolts you can remove 47 Lbs (manual passenger seat). Windsheild wipers are easy to remove (10 seconds each) and improve aerodynamics.

Why have you not removed the tailgate and wing yet? And your good to remove the brake ducts. SRT-10 bract ducts provide little to know cooling how they come from the factory. You would have to add some hoses that routed air to the rotor, preferably to the center of the rotor

I planned on eventually removing both at the track next time I go.

Can you share HOW the brake ducts do little to cool the rotors?!?

    Re; tailgate and wing....

The tailgate and wing work together to keep the airflow off the back of the truck as clean as possible. Tests have shown that air is trapped in the bed with tailgate on and up. It's called "Locked Vortex Flow".

All new trucks are incorporating a "Tuned Spoiler" on tailgates to even further clean up the air tumbling over the back of the bed. This allows cleaner air separation.

Our trucks are special. We have an even further refined wing designed in a wind tunnel with the Dodge NASCAR team. If you look carefully to the underside of the wing, the shape works in conjunction with the top lip of the tailgate. The air spilling over the tailgate is cleaner allowing separation and the benefits are Huge as you approach the traps and beyond. We also get added downforce w/o drag. The benefits are impressive above 90 when driving the twisty roads.

So what is the tradeoff?!? 60' vs. Trap speed. My expirience with bikes is every .10 off 60' gives you .20 at the traps. Does the weight over the back assist with 60' or is it quicker to unload it and gain?!?

Trianman could chime in... also your results will be very interesting! Will it happen this year with winter comming?!?

    Cheers

I did see that Atco is open until early December with test and tunes. In this case all bets are off because there is a large difference in DA from the track I currently run at and Atco. I will have to look at corrected times to level the playing field. I would like to run one more time this year. It will be a long winter if I don't run again.

60lbs is 60lbs. Ever since I've been running mid 12's(last run at full weight, 5,000 lbs, 12.64@109) , I started reducing weight, I have consistently lowered my times, and I have been one of the fastest (speed wise) in our club, even beating some supercharged SRT-10's, even though I am NA, with a stock engine. My best speed at 118.15mph in the 1/4 mile was with the tailgate off. I know ArrestMeRed always runs with his tailgate on, but our gears and tires are different so it is tough to compare....even though we are similar in power and mods... I am a bit lighter...and thus quicker and faster.

During the week is tough for me with my work schedule. I was hoping for a Saturday or Sunday test and tune.

I really don't think the aerodynamics is THAT important, I've been 117mph and don't even fold in the mirrors. Jerry my truck is down about 30hp on yours(last dyno was only 467hp) I do think with my gear/tire comb my ratios are a little lower than yours though

We've never used the same dyno, so what you are saying may be true or not. We would need to dyno at the same place and time to be sure. What is your tire height now? I assume you are still running the 4.10's..... With my 30" tall M&H Cheater slicks and 4.56 gears , I am at 19.57 mph per 1,000 rpm in 4th gear. If you are running a 28" tall tire and 4.10's , then you are at 20.317 mph per 1,000 in 4th gear, so you are a little taller than me. Maybe next time at the strip, maybe you could make one pass without the tailgate and compare runs!

Interesting....I just went to Dragsource.com, and used their Horsepower calculator using either ET or MPH and the weight of the vehicle. I used 4395 lbs for weight (4170 truck and 225 for me) and got the following results. Using an et of 11.631, equals 552.1 HP, and using a speed of 118.01 mph, equals 563.7 Hp.

Is that calculation supposed to be flywheel or whp?

Using the same calculator I came up with 546hp going by et(4650lbs, 11.89et) and 581hp by moh [email protected].

We were blessed with a beautiful Christmas eve in PA and surprisingly I was off of work. I thought what better thing to do than to update my weight reduction thread. So here it is. I weighed the spoiler, tailgate and removed the package tray and spare tire carrier. I also emptied my glove box, just to see what that weighed in at. Every little bit helps! :D

The first picture is to show that the scale was zeroed out with the boards on top of it. I used the boards so the spoiler and tailgate did not touch the ground while on the scale.

The spoiler and bolts weighed in at 14.0 lbs, not to mention the possible trap speed that will be picked up by losing the wing.

The tailgate tipped the scales at 58.0 lbs.

Next I removed the spare tire carrier, only the part that could be unbolted. If you were looking for further weight reduction and don't mind cutting you can pick up more by cutting off the bracket. Also remember to drop the carrier down slightly exposing the cable to remove. The carrier with the handle and bolts only weighed in at 4 lbs.

Next I removed the package tray per Trainman's recommendation. This weighed in at 10 lbs.

The final stage in this weight reduction session was emptying the glovebox contents. This didn't net much but like I said every little bit counts. The total was 2.5 lbs.

I can't wait to make it back to the track to back up the further weight reduction with times. Spring can't get here soon enough!!
