I know there's a lot of people that have had problems with the hoses, that the originals are crap. And that even the dealers admit they have a problem and I was just wondering if they ever recalled that problem. Maybe I missed the memo! Mine started leaking little by little and now it turned into a mess.

Get Tony's Lines. Hardest part is getting the OEM line out of the PS pump. You will want some crows foot wrenches... makes life a lot easier.

    Power steering problems

The problem with Viper steering revolves around poor quality hoses, AND the steering pump. The first sign is low fluid, or the steering locking up when you start the truck after it gets rained on. You must at the first sign of noise, or the above problem get it checked out by a good private mechanic, as the dealer has no idea how to fix these trucks. You will lose your steering and crash if neglect this. A new pump will cost about $650.00, which I had to install in my 2007 with only 28,000 miles on it.

The truck also lacks a shift interlock, so DO NOT leave it running in park, as it can slip into reverse and start moving with no one driving. They have no fix for this the bastards.

We'll that sucks I just got off the phone with my brother in law who is a mechanic and said we need the hose and recommends we do the pump too! Since out of hesitation like a not so smart person I added clear fluid. Thanks for the response guys. And thanks for bringing the shifter problem up. It clears up things because the wife had told me about it but I thought she was going crazy when she told me that! And how do I look for Tonys hoses I'm new to the forum

It's usually only the high pressure hose coming out of top side of pump. You can bring it to a local parts store it Tractor Supply and have hose made for it. Hydraulic hose repair shops as well.
If you look in the Vendor Section you'll find JTSVP, that is Tony. He has made several replacement hoses for our beast and may stock one for ya.

I just recently did the power steering lines from JTSVP. If you take your time you wont have to try and find the 20mm crows foot(which I couldnt find locally). I managed to use an open end 20 mm wrench and it broke loose. if the fluid in your pump resevoir isnt milky(from water) I don't think you need a new pump. My lines had been leaking a while(top fittting) and I had no water in the system. The most expensive power steering pump our local parts store sells for the 10 is $105 bucks by the way. The lines really arent that hard to change. Just be sure to tighten them good.....I didnt tighten the bottom one and blew a lil bit a fluid everywhere(the entire system full)

Thanks I'll take a look and check for the milky fluid and I just got off the phone from the dealer and the pump is 260 so hopefully It's just the line thanks for the info

First time I've ever heard of this. There are several trucks on this site with over 100k miles that are still running the stock steering pump. I can't think of a single example of one that has crashed due to a steering pump failure.

I'm surprised they had one to fit a 2007 SRT10. And honestly, that's a rear piece, I'm shocked it didn't cost a lot more.

Is this unique to the 2007 SRT10's?

Get you a set of JTS lines that usually will fix your problem. If it is the pump run down to O'Reily's or Rock Auto and get a reman(I went to O'Reily's) should run you around $100, the OEM one is a new unit but the remans come with a lifetime warranty were the OEM doesn't and here lately from what I've read the remans are filling in just fine.... Half the price and they'll replace it if it does fail.

Originally I had leaky lines, replaced the lines and the first time I turned her on and turned the wheel the pump blew a hole in the top of it.

Actually after the first of the year our complete line lineup will change, we purchased our own crimping machine with all dies, and will be changing things up to do them all in house, from custom to oem

    Hmmm,

Ive had to replace my lines 2x now. Once from the dealer (which only lasted around 18 months) and then I got JTSVP lines.

I always wondered why my truck could go from Park to any of the gears without pressing the brake. That's dangerous.

Ahem.... when it was an automatic!

Each fitting uses a diff sized wrench. I remember the top going into the top of the pump was a 20mm. Cant remember the rest. Prolly not what you meant tho.
