Depends on the state and their DWI laws.. Cali has classes that are not cheap that are mandatory for 3 months and extra stuff for all DWI cases and a blow machine in your vehicles.

Louisiana DUI | LA Drunk Driving Laws, Penalties and Fines | DrivingLaws.org

Louisiana has an implied consent law. That means that if you refuse to submit to a chemical test you will be subject to a fine and automatic license suspension

1st offense 6 month license revocation

So at a minimum your walking and hitching rides for 6 months. This is where people fuck up. They drive anyway, get nailed again and it snowballs. Do your time and be done.

If convicted
The first DWI you receive in The State of Louisiana will go on your record as a criminal offense. You will be fined up to $1,000 and you will pay for all of the legal proceedings. You could spend up to 6 months in jail and lose your drivers license for up to 90 days if you are over 21, and up to 6 months if you are under 21.

Holy hell, this is the first time i read a whole thread in a while...LOL

I can say this, I used to drink and drive ALL the time...UNTIL the day I got my DUI!!!!! Dont get me wrong, I still drink, quite often actually. However, I will NEVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE, drive intoxicated. People do change. Now with that being said...it is NOT ILLEGAL to DRINK AND DRIVE....IT IS illegal however, to drink to the legal intoxication level and then get behind the wheel!!! Yes, If I am at pool league on base, I will have a beer or two at the beginning, and I will drive myself home an hour or two later. ****SIDE NOTE:: IF you have a A QUARTER OF A BEER, and then go hit someone or get in a wreck...guess whos fault it is in 99% of cases....YOURS.**** So thats a risk you take. The AVERAGE human body processes 1oz hard liquor, (8) ? oz wine, or a 12oz beer per hour. This is exactly why I blew a .21 when I got pulled over, and then 2 hours later after being booked into jail, I blew a .28 because the alcohol in my stomach hadnt even caught up yet. I used to be a stupid, self-centered, cocky asshole thinking it was ok to drive drunk. I only thank god that I didn't wreck, or cause any harm to anyone else on the road. I would not have been able to live with myself. With that being said...take the sentence...whatever it is...because I consider myself LUCKY that my sentence WAS ENOUGH to get it through my thick head that I was a ignorant FOOL!! The last thing you want is to not have another chance...this is your chance to change your ways...I would take advantage of it brother.
