Every time it rains ( this seems to only happens when it rains) i'll get in to start the truck and put it in gear and when I go to turn the steering wheel it becomes hard to turn and the gage light will flash a few times then will correct itself and most of the time steer fine this also happens when I'm driving and I hit a puddle. Not sure if its really the pump going bad or if it is the steering rack and pinion going out. Any thoughts or if this happened to you?

it's your belt slipping when it gets water on it.

My 06 did it through the car wash last weekend. Unsure what the fix would be.

yeah mine started doing it a few months ago, before that never happened. curious to know what the fix would be to, going to try some belt conditioner see if that helps.

I have Tony's underdrive pully on the truck wonder if it has anything to do with the shorter belt that he supplied with it?

When this happened to me I had just put a brand new belt on it. The truck does have a v1r underdrive pulley but I highly doubt that has anything to do with it.

I've had the stock pulley and belt slip after hitting a puddle or car wash with hood closed (water through hood scoop)a couple times. In my case my steering was fine but alternator dropped like a rock! Let off gas and alternator catches grip again and is good. Double check your fluid level first. Being rain is the common factor I could only believe it's belt slippage.

depends on how hard the pump is to turn. A smaller pulley will have less contact area and may slip. especially when it gets wet. Check that the tensioner still is applying proper tension to the belt. and try to diagnose if you are having pump issues. there has been some complaints of pumps overpressuring. splitting stock hoses and even Tony's hoses! I would replace the pump and see if that helps. before it splits a hose !! Have fun!! trhese things are alot of fun but hard on the pocketbook!!

also try a gatorback belt the green ones, a bit more $$ but less slippage
