Do bolt-on performance mods really make a difference?

I bought my 06 QC about four years ago and have installed the usual bolt-on performance mods:

  • K&N Cold Air Intake
  • JTSVP Throttle Body
  • JTSVP Underdrive Pulley
  • Magnaflow Catback Exhaust + Rear Cat Delete
  • SCT Tuner from Torrie

I recently dyno'd my truck at only 414hp/457tq and my best 1/4 mile time is 13.8s @101mph. Where is all the power? The truck drives almost exactly the same, although it's louder. Could I have one of the trucks with the [allegedly] bad camshaft?

I'm very frustrated, feeling like I'm throwing a match on a bonfire. This beast should be much quicker but instead it's all bark and no bite!

The fine print usually says "you may get up to xx HP" with this mod. "your results may vary". You have made your truck sound better, but your mods are not enough to make much of a difference on a very heavy truck. I lost HP going the canned tune route, but it did lead us to the retarded cam issue.

It is a pain in the butt to change the cam, so make sure you have your power end goal in mind, and only do it once. :)

I guess you could say that my Striker Heads are a bolt-on performance mod.

And yes, they made a difference!!

Damn, I have almost same boltons. K&n cool air, underdrive pulley, Xmetal TB, rear cat delete, magnaflow catback. I ran 13.55 on a 90° day with really high himidity. Hoping to hit 13 4 or 13.3 soon with this cooler dryer weather.

And I was in my reagular street tires. No caltax or anything. Just rear lower shackles and front RC springs. I have a QC. I really wana do cams and heads, but dont have the money.

Thank you all for your input. What a dizzying array of suggestions! I am not working with a large budget so I will consider all that you have shared. And to those who now seem disappointed with their own trucks, I'm finding that speed is an addictive drug so best of luck to us and our shrinking wallets!
