so installed my X-Metal shifter bought from Tone, it was pretty straightforward install and now I am wondering if I installed the lever correctly.

The new shifter feels pretty similar to the stock Hurst shifter, but haven't had a chance to get out an drive it hard yet, so we'll see.

I used the stock Hurst handle, mounted just as the stock shifter lever (with all the rubber isolator stuff and all, and it placed the shifter ball in the center of the console (feels farther to the center than before).

If I want to get the shifter ball more towards the drivers side.....

Should I
  • get rid of the rubber isolators and bolt the hurst lever direct to the shifter?
  • Should I just use the X-Metal lever?
  • Should I bend the Hurst lever?

Any advice is appreciated!

The bold is why the shifter still feels sloppy.

This! Get the insulator out from between the two metal shifter bases. I bolted mine on the outside of the two shift levers so that I could use the stock bolts.

If you bolt the handle to the shifter assembly without the rubber bushing, you will need to use some nylon washers in between the two pieces. That will work just fine. I had to remove the Hurst lever from the bushing and flip it around to place it where I wanted it. It does feel a little sloppy with the bushing, but it's preference. Hit me up with any questions dude :)

Tone.... when you say flip it around

do you mean so the bend of the shift lever is going to the left and not the right like factory?

I seriously think I may run the straight Metal X shifter arm, but guess I will keep playing with it.

Pictures would help immensely

You can always get a local machine shop to make you a lever. maybe bend a coat hanger in the way you want a steel handle to be. Then get the handle powder coated. I'm against aluminum handles due to my b&m handle breaking right after the last thread.

put my stock Hurst back in

and added a Hurst ball.... happy days! I like the stock shifter. If anyone wants my X-Metal.... I am listing in classified now
