I pick up my SRT-10 Tuesday and am thinking of chopping the exhaust.

I know there are supporters on both side of the fence (remove or not to remove).

For those of you who have done it, have you thrown codes and if so, how soon after having it done?

I am not concerned with the sound as I like it loud. I am concerned with doing damage to the motor.

I have a 14 JEEP SRT and am running straight pipes and have no issue.

Any advise would be appreciated.

thanks

Just like your Jeep you shouldn't have any issue with straight pipe, but your check engine light most likely will come on and stay on until you fix it or put high flow cats to appease your computer. If you don't mind this at all, have fun waking up the dead. ;)

VENOMOUS 1 installed cutouts just in front of my mufflers. He prefers his snakebite sound but I like the open sound. I being a bit deaf may not be hearing what others hear. :D

That said, the further back the cutouts the deeper the sound. According to the manufacture the closer they are installed to the headers the raspier the sound. Don't believe you will every get your 10 to have the deep rumble of the old V8 muscle cars. :dontknow:

I drive mine open all the time cept when the bride is riding, then the quieter the better.

Shorty yours isn't straight pipe. Although yours dumps before the mufflers, around 40% of the sound/exhaust still goes through the mufflers. You basically get a louder version of our SnakeBite exhaust. Straight pipe will sound like absolute caca! Backfiring, popping, raspy as heck. Yeah it'll be loud, but a v6 Chevy with straight pipes tone. Just my .02

I had mine straight piped at one point.. yea it didnt sound very good between 1500-2200 RPM but once it hit 3K-5800, damn did it sound bas ass!!!! and the backfire sounded like shots were fired lol. 4 days later Po-Po noticed and told me to put a muffler on or it would be a ticket :(.. Code wise, i used "Non-Fouled Spark Plug Spacers" to move the O2 sensor away from the pipe, $10 fix for me.

Ya know, I do see exhaust coming from the tail pipes when cold and the dumps are open. No matter, sounds great to a deaf man and does wake the texters up when I blow by them.

I'm glad you guys don't live or drive near me. Actually you should be fortunate you don't live near me. :chain:

Thanks to all for the feedback, after I removed the mufflers it sounded worse than a cheap rice-burner. I immediately turned around and had the flow master 40s put back on.
I would rather have a quiet sounding rig than one with fifty shotguns firing out the back end.
