So everyone,

The truck has been sitting for the past few months. Refuse to take her out with the snow and salt. I have an 06 jeep cherokee that is my daily beater. Just hit 260k and am just waiting for something to happen. I've started to look at winter cars and almost fell in love with the new subaru sti launch edition. I need a winter car and figure awd why not. Any thoughts as to winter car preferences? Thanks guys!

P.S. I refuse to sell my truck. Almost about to hit 50k.

Seen a vid on YouTube with some idiot using front end of a 2015 for a snow plow. My opinion is that you can do better for a winter beater. Once the undercarriage of the car starts dragging in the snow all-wheel-drive is useless. That car sits way to low to be of any use. The Wrangler I have has been pelted with salt etc many times this season alone. Think I'm on the 3rd windshield since I got it. No way I want to put a new car through that.

My buddy has a 2015 launch edition STI. I wouldn't dare put a car that expensive in the snow, cuz I was with him when he bought it and believe me it was not cheap.

Anywhere honestly from 20-40k about. I found a few sti's 30-36 range mostly 2015s with very low mileage. I looked at SUV's and trucks but they were a little too expensive. And i miss my stick shift and my fast and furious looking cobalt ss. And I have the truck for the summer months and if I need some extra room of course.

i prefer the evo to the STI, but i'm an ex mitsu owner, so i may be partial.

if i had 30k to spend on a reliable AWD winter daily, i honestly think it would be an evo. this coming from a wagon fan.

that being said, i've driven several other AWD cars that might interest you (some don't know AWD is an option):
BMW 335Xi
G37X

for top of the money, i might even consider an S title GT-R, but like any performance vehicle, the maintenance may not justify the cool factor.

if i had to pick an SUV, for the winter, even being a jeep fan, i couldn't rightly recommend an SRT - i'd pick a nice hemi overland for the low range...

Yeah, I was always a fan of the evo as well. But once I saw the launch edition with the blue and gold rims it was kind of when I saw my first SRT and said I have to have that haha. I will keep you guys updated. Plan on driving the jeep into the ground before making car payments. Truck was paid in cash at time of sale. I wish I could do the same for this one. Thanks everyone for the help I appreciate it as always.

I just looked this car up on Motor Trend. Still think you are crazy to want this for a winter car. Said only 1,000 were made so I would think the price would be way higher than sticker price.

I have a few in my area actually not too bad. Some of the older 2012-2014 are going for 30-34k. I have a few launch editions from 2k-12k miles from 32-36. So not too bad. The limited is actually more expensive, comes with leather I believe and sunroof..

I don't mean to compare apples to oranges but I picked up a brand new 2016 WRX for my "winter beater". I've had the car for about 4 months now, I like it I just don't love it. I honestly feel as if it is rather cheaply built for a $30K+ car. Driveline wise it's decent but creature comforts it's okay. It has the most road noise out of any vehicle I have ever owned (2000 and up anyhow). It also depends what you are really looking for. I think it is rather crazy that if you want an STI Limited you are looking at $40K, if you are looking for an AWD rip around car then fine I guess but I still believe you will be disapointed in the refinements aspect. I do not look at my WRX as my "racecar", with that being said I wish I just sucked it up, spent a bit more cash and bought an Audi.

If you get sick of it I'll come pick it up.

It's the new Lapis blue, graphite wheels, premium package, 4,XXX miles. I also bought the extended warranty, fully covered 7 year/ 120K miles. It's a beautiful car, guess I'm just not a Subi guy. Anything is for sale!

I had a 2004 STi (first year is was available in the US). I added some performance winter tires (Dunlop SP Wintersport), set my DCCD into Lock, and had so much fun in the snow. Those were great tires too since they were awesome on just cold pavement, wet ground, etc.

The only minus to that car is if the snow is too deep, your front bumper is now a plow. I could literally get that car sideways, and swing it back around to the other side, the back to center with ease.

I had a B7 Audi S4 also, it was perfectly fine in the snow too.

Between the 2, the STi was "better" in the snow.

I will say, my toughest winter driving experience, meaning heavy snow on the ground and still falling, driving blind, etc... Was all conquered by a 4DR Jeep Wrangler Rubicon I got to borrow. It did quite an amazing job that day.

I can promise you won't regret the STi

I prefer evos. Dont like the way the Subaru sounds. But any car will suck with more boost. But they are hard to keep stock.
