Nearly overheated the truck when i got home and popped the hood and found the radiator hose came off the top. Should I replace the clamp? The hose? It doesn't look damaged nor does the clamp...

I'd replace it all to be safe, they are very cheap.

Agreed. Your truck is 11 years old, spend a few bucks on preventative maintenance. Do the upper and lower at the same time.:)

So i just replaced the radiator cap (which was warped) and the hose / clamp, i'll keep an eye on it to see if the tstat needs to be replaced. Thanks guys!

The faster you drive it the cooler it runs. :D

So it overheated again, it's something bigger. Maybe a bad water pump or tstat like previous suggested?

Check to see if the rad nozzle is cracked. I think it is Plastic . If the rad cap is working, cooling system shouldn't get past 15#'s. Check coolant overflow hose isn't plugged.

Ugh, so the Porsche dealer (who I bought it through), can't figure out what's going on, they say there's bubbling in the radiator when it runs, I now have to have it towed to the Dodge dealer down the street to get a diagnostic run on it to figure it out. Hopefully whatever's wrong is covered by warranty and the engine isn't cooked...

Hate to say it but bubbles in the radiator or over flow bottle is usually a bad head gasket. Depending on how hot the engine got & how many times will determine how much collateral damage you may find.

Porsche dealer doesn't know what bubbling in the water is? Trouble shooting 101. First year technical school covers that one...head gasket.

If the Dodge dealer does not have a Viper certified mechanic then I would run. I have been to both and I believe there is a huge difference. One dealer said he did not have a factory certified Viper mechanic and refused to work on my truck. I also realize the many of the guy here are everybit as good as a factory trained Viper mechanic but by and large the dealerships are not that specialized.

Also is must be understood that most of us here should be "certified" but that has nothing to do with the SRT-10 trucks----frontal lobe issues. :burnout:

For his problem a Viper tech isn't extremely needed. It's just a pushrod motor and will show the same signs of failure as a pushrod v-8. Your mechanic is not a certified Viper tech so your advice doesn't hold much weight. Not saying he isn't capable, just that he is no more certified than a regular Dodge tech.

Head gasket all the way... I don't care if your tstat sticks closed the radiator cap can bypass the pressure fast enough unless your pushing combustion into the cooling system. My overflow bottle has looked like it has a peculator in it a few times.

They suggested it was a head gasket but said the warranty that I got would cover that, but I have to tow it over to the Dodge dealer down the street to diagnose and do the work.

Thankfully Videon DCJ has a Viper tech that works there

I dont understand this "Viper Tech" certified stuff. Because the block has two extra holes in it they need to be certified? Maybe they just make sure that the "Viper Tech" isnt a complete idiot and actually has a basic understanding of being a technician?

I would imagine its like any other job, the more certifications and training you get the more likely you are to be a competent tech. That in no way means that you need to have these certifications to know what you doing, but it shows initiative and a willingness to do this the right way.

I have nothing to do with dodge training but I would like to know what is required to become a "viper tech"
