So my truck threw me a P0601 code, it was running fine then all of a sudden I could tell something was up. Brought it to the stealership and they told me the PCM is shot, cannot find a new one anywhere. Anyone know where I might be able to find one? Thanks!

Starting with the basics- Is your battery in good condition?

With everything hooked up, remove both battery cables and touch them together for a few seconds then reinstall and give it a try.
This is equivalent to a cold-boot on a computer for your PCM.

If you do your own work, remove each PCM connector and make sure the pins are nice and straight (not bent).
You can also have a general look around at the cables running to and from your PCM to make sure they look to be in good condition.

If the above didn't help, a re-flash may also reintroduce the PCM to planet earth.

Because they are so scarce, I've heard a replacement PCM for a QC is around the 2 thousand mark so some troubleshooting is worth the effort.

P0601 Diagnostic Theory for Shops and Technicians
When the code P0601 is set in the Powertrain Computer, it means that the Powertrain Computer or PCM is failing its Memory Check Sum self-check and has found errors within its Memory functions. In many cases, the PCM is not getting a high quality, consistent 12 volt power signal. However in some cases, actual Memory modules are defective and the PCM needs to replaced and re-programmed. But, before you replace the PCM, be sure to check for any shorted output devices that may have cause the Memory functions to fail.

It's still running so I'd do as Ronnie suggested before buying a PCM. When they really brick it won't run. I'm hoping battery or grounds for ya. Pcms are higher than giraffe ass!:burnout:
 
Not entirely true, functions of the PCM can fail and the vehicle can still run.

It was fine and then probably a week later I noticed it was just acting sluggish you can tell it just wasn't running right by the sound of it. Kept revving up and down, when I put it in park would rev up to 1500 rpm. Brought it to the dealer figured it at least needed to be re-flashed by them.
 
Have you tried changing battery yet? Clearing codes and seeing if they reappear? I've seen many glitches that are often never to come back after clearing. Some have even thrown codes not even related to our engines! Like "intake heater fault" when we are not a diesel! I've see them not throw codes at times they should be. Failed O2s, Cam/Crank sensor, etc
Just saying it's worth your time to clean terminals, grounds, if battery age unknown change it.
Dan Lessor is the PCM guru and can help you if it's needed, but I just don't see it being the case yet IMHO :rock:
 
I had put a new battery in this past winter so the battery shouldn't be the problem. it's at the dealer now still :(. I'll see if they can clear it and see if it comes back. I found a new PCM for about $2099.00 on that site that was posted. I'm not ready to take that route just yet so thank you all for the help!

Watch the dealer! Just sayin. They can't even get PCM

Have they tried to sell you a new truck yet? When I was at the dealer trying to find out what was wrong with my truck after they said what they thought it likely was but wasnt, they said they can sell me a new truck and give me something for my 10.
 
Hey guys, so it looks like the PCM is shot. Tried to hard restart it it won't even respond. It looks like I'll be purchasing a new one. FML.

Have you contacted me? I have gotten a slew of emails all of a sudden, so I am not sure.

So i sent it out hoping it could be repaired. Turns out the brain is dead and I will definitely need a new one. Can anyone direct me to where I can purchase one? Final GTS if you have your contact info I can give you a call after work. I've been looking on ebay and online without much luck. Thanks!
