I posted a thread a week or 2 ago about a bad noise i had trying to start the engine. Well just got word from dealership that i towed it to that a rod went through the block. Now trying to find options. Do i sell it as is, or do i get a replacement engine? And where would i get 1?

If a rod went through the block wouldnt you have seen the carnage on the ground? I had mine bend a piston rod but was able to have it rebuilt.

If you sell your truck as is you'll be taking a loss but if you want to divest yourself of it that is the route.

I just looked on ebay and saw a few v10 motors in the range of 8 to 10k. So that is what your looking at to replace the motor, then you have to factor in having it put in which I'd estimate another 2k+ for labor.

I have an engine, but will also buy the truck from you whole if you prefer.

I have an engine for sale - fresh, zero miles. I haven't installed the cam or pistons and rods yet, so if you want to spend a little more, I can finish the build for your needs.
PM me if you'd like to discuss it.

Seems like a pretty easy swap on a Ram imo...
Good luck finding a motor.

No, you wouldn't have seen it on the ground. It doesn't blow a full chunk of the block out, it splits it and most of the time you just see a wide crack protruding out..

Don't get me wrong if you do it right you can have a full window but normally it's not that exciting..

Try X2 builders they got complete motors and specialize in Vipers and our 10's. Ask for Scott.

Wow, that's terrible. My condolences. I would second the X2 they have a few ready to be shipped. Also there is or was an add on Facebook for a block. Good luck in your search and transplant.

Sorry to hear about your motor. If you're looking for a new motor I know Ebay sells a few complete motors from 8-10k.

Small end failure. I'd like to see the piston. This occurred at start up correct?

What were the engines conditions just prior to last shut down? I'd bet the piston suffered detonation and stuck in the cylinder.

These engines are overbuilt and under stressed stock. Warm them up thoroughly before playing, run em' on the rich side and geeze, don't over rev them. The valve train does not like it. ;)

Please share if you can.

Cheers!

Mine bent a piston rod doing start up. It was a cold start to boot. Im lucky mine just bent and didnt break and go through the block.

My engine builder couldnt really say what caused it, they said bent pistons typically only happen when water gets in the motor. It was raining the day I started and I had just put my wheels on to replace the ones that got stolen. I didnt have the hood open though.

Either way I was a lucky one, OP sorry for the block. As somebody else said try x2 builders, I bought a set of wheels from them when mine were stolen.

I am on Base here on Fort Lee VA. Speed limit is 25 on base. I drove it back and forth to school all day. Never got above second gear. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Since I have owned it I try not to rev it high when driving it. It was sitting approx. 1 hour when I tried to start it to go to dinner. When it made some small clanking and then nothing.

Do you have any mods on the truck?
