So I got the engine out after a rod broke. I have a couple of questions from our disassemble today. When we drained the oil there was water that came out first. Then after the head came off we noticed the broken rod was from the piston hydrolocking. And water/fuel was dripping out of the intake manifold,( hard to tell which due to the fluids mixing while we were flipping it on the stand). A few questions we have from our day are...

Will cylinder fill with fuel if injector sticks open?

Are exhaust valve faces suppose to be flat or curved?

Took intake manifold off, looks like water coming out of manifold.

If Fuel pressure regulator fails will it fill the cylinder with gas and hydrolock?

Thanks for any assistance on this. Kind of stumped

Bad head gasket ? And water will always come out before the oil, as the oil rises to the top and the water settles in the oil pan

Examine the head gaskets and look for burn or not normal areas. Yes the valves won't be flat. And yes of an injector sticks open it can dump fuel into the cylinder. Yes if you rotated the engine the coolant will go into the intake.

Thanks for the responses. This is going to be a long winter build. Truck is in my garage, engine is at my buddies place an hour and a half away.

That sucks but i feel ya. Mine is a bare block in my shop getting ready for a new bottom end

And mine .... no update from the dealership yet! But probably tore down also

Yes a stuck open injector can fill a cylinder and hydrolock. I agree it sounds more like headgasker let go. What mods done to truck? Pictures of plugs?

I am thinking head gasket as well. The head gasket looked ok when I took the engine apart though. I had the plugs replaced earlier this year. I did not remove them during the disassemble. I have a K&N intake and a tune from Torrie.

When I drained the oil the first bit was clear. In hind sight I did not collect that fluid. I should of tasted it or smelled it. I assumed it was water. The truck broke early July and I drained the oil 14 Oct. Would the oil completely separate during that time?

Thanks. Sorry for all the questions. This is above my mechanical knowledge.

Hit up SRT2SLOW. He’s a fellow Yankee and knows these engines like the back of his hand.
