I'm new to driving my '04 SRT 8.3 V-10 - Seems to be be rough in the low rpm range (1000-2500rpm) feeling like a cylinder misfire. Will the OBD2 system set a error code if there is a misfiring cylinder? Miles are quite low, no codes set, nothing else unusual

Hey Joe. Welcome to the forum. Truck vibrating at low rpm? It's not staling out on you is it?

I'm sure if there's any misfire you would be able to pull the stored code. I don't know where you live but any autozone will pull the history for you. Intermittent misfires are hard because if it misses one cycle and hits the next it may determine not to throw the check engine light. From what I've read the wires seem to be the culprits most time.

Just my 2 cents hope it helps and welcome to the forum.

No stalling or other unusual dips or surges in RPM- Power is linear.
Only mod truck has is Magnaflow exhaust- No excessive backfire, but periodic tone is a little unique. May pull a few plugs today but I would assume it would set a code.

Best thing you can do is inspect the wires well and as soon as you feel the engine misfire if on idle is start pulling wires to see if you catch the culprit(s) as there may be more than one. Since the vehicle is already misfiring at that time, there shouldn’t be any further change in feel to worsen the issue on the ones you pull that are bad. That will tell you if the one you are pulling is dead or not. Good luck.

Starting in the OFF position, cycle the key to ON (where the instrument panel lights illuminate), then back one notch to OFF, back to ON, then to OFF, then finally to ON. Any stored codes will be displayed on the odometer. If No codes are present it is probably time for a sparkplug change and then add a small jug of injector cleaner. Last thing to do is to check behind cylinder# 10 and make sure the wiring isn't sitting on the exhaust.....

Thanks for the tips- did the "dodge key dance" and no engine performance codes. (P1685 came up but that is because I used a bad key). Ran the engine through rpm ranges in very low light and could not see any arcing. Pulled 5 plugs today, reset a few wide gaps but otherwise color and condition looked OK. As you say may be time to change plugs but as always what a frustration getting ignition wire boots off. Couldn't get 5 of them (#10 being one I couldn't remove) and didn't want to screw up wires given the near two day job to replace all or any I damaged.

Try turning the boots of your plug wires back and forth before you try to pull them. 90 degrees should be more than enough. If they are that hard to pull off, they could be the originals and are now nearly 15 years old.
Changing them would be a good place to start.

I have used Tonys wires and coils for over 200 k on 3 trucks. Have them on the new rebuild... But I also like the Bosch multi fire plugs....:) waiting to get slammed for them, but they have done 300k in my various trucks... My o2..:D

I had similar issue last year threw some sea foam and full tank of gas I swear to you joe it ran like a top since until my tps took a dump a couple weeks ago but it’s all fixed and up now also don’t neglect that air filter :) worth a shot bud

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I had the impression that the SRT-10 disengages certain cylinders for fuel consumption when they are not needed. Could this be the case or does it feel really rough?

That is very useful key information indeed!

The Viper engines have never had an MDS system
