Hi, I’m new to vtcoa and a proud owner of a Red 2004 Viper Truck. I bought her a couple years ago and have done the following modifications:

- Rebadged her. Thank you Justin at JMB for the Fangs hood emblem. Removed all Dodge and Ram logos. Kept the SRT-10 and added Viper emblems including the steering wheel.
- Powdercoated the wheels yankee gold. Replaced the Ram center caps with SRT caps.
- Swapped out the brakes with red powdercoated calipers from Justin at JMB.
- Upgraded to led Spyder tail lights, an led 3rd brake light, and Speed Daddy headlights. All halogen bulbs were upgraded to led, including interior lights.
- Installed a Sony double din and back up camera.
- Installed red powdercoated Caltrack traction bars.
- Added new Viper license plate frames and Viper floor mats to go faster.

Things I would like to do next:

- Full exhaust, leaning towards a complete Billy Boat system.
- BBK throttle body and Volant air intake.
- Just ordered new oil cooler lines from JTSVP because they were leaking and kind of excited to do that too.

Looking forward to participating in this community and asking a lot of questions. Hopefully I can answer a few too. Thanks.

Nice looking truck! A BBK throttle body was one of my first mods. Great throttle response. I also have a full Billy Boat exhaust...sounds great. Don't waste your money on a Volante intake, go with a K&N diesel filter in your stock air box and keep it a 'cold air intake".

He's in California. He will could run into problems with the police and or CARB when getting it smogged. I think Volant is the only one California legal.

Thank you. Should I go BBK or with the one JTSVP makes? I’ve been reading different things on here.

I’ve never heard of that filter or going that route. If smog is an issue I could just put a smog compliant filter back in there for smog tests. I’ll look into it. Why no to the Volant?

For the record, I live in CA for work and am not a progressive socialist democrat. There are good people like myself living in CA.

Over the years the guys that have used the Volant have not seen any real gains. I did a dyno test with the K&N flat and diesel cone filters; the diesel was worth 1 RWHP more than the flat (that dyno, that day). The choice is yours on the TB. JTSVP has been trying to get a group order out the door on the TB's for several months. Check if he has them in stock, or be willing to wait for delivery.

Some people here think Volants are no good. Personally I noticed a difference. People used to say that stock manifolds were the best header :dontknow: and just a drop in filter was good enough.

I added the Volant CAI years ago and did it at the same time as some other bolt ons. I recently removed it because I am tired of the bulk of it blocking the view of the motor. I put the stock air box back in and added a K&N filter. I can honestly say that I did not feel any "seat of the pants" difference when I switched back.

Volant is a Joke of a design. The "scoop" is in a low pressure area and air is sucked out. No draw at hood "vent".

Stock set up is an excellent design and a K&N filter added to it is the best set up. It provides the coolest air possible from the front grill block off scoop that pushes air into the fender. Trust me, once your intake temperature rises above 104 deg. F. the boat anchor comes out.

Cheers!

Looks like it’s $75 for the K&N or $400 for the Volant and if there’s not much, if anything, I’m getting in return for the Volant I might as well save some money to put towards other upgrades. I just thought the design was cool and the product description definitely boasts a nice performance upgrade, 36HP. I’m leaning towards the K&N upgrade now.

The K&N doesn't affect the smog testing, although I keep my old paper filter for when I'm cleaning and oiling the K&N anyway. I also haven't had any problems with the BBK in plain sight either, but also saved the stock one just in case. Gibson shorty headers and Magnaflow cat back don't do a huge amount for HP, but I like them anyway. Underdrive pulley is also a change that I liked.
