On my new QC the TV cable has been repaired shoddily by the TB. I'm not sure if it was cut or just wore through, but it has been crimped together. I'm having trouble finding one online anywhere, all I can find is the throttle cable for accelerator, or the shift cable for the transmission.

Anyone happen to have a part number or something for the TV cable? I'll hit up the dealer tomorrow to see if maybe they can look it up, but I don't have the most faith in them.

To update my own thread: The part number is 53032665AE (supposedly, I still don't trust the dealer). It has been long discontinued and there are no aftermarket suppliers. I did call up my buddy who is an engineer for Chrysler, he said the TV cable is SRT specific even though the diesels also use the 48RE.

You might try a motorcycle repair shop as they have been known to have bulk cable and could thread one through your existing jacket and crimp on the ends (?)

Thanks Ronnie, that's a good idea. I had been looking around and bike suppliers kept popping because of their clutch and throttle cables, but I didn't even think of just bringing the cable in to a shop and let them deal with it.

I would try X2 recyclers too on Ebay. they do a lot of srt10 ram and viper recycling and may have a take off. What about Tony Sawyer or Scott Foreman too?

Hi Ronnie, I was able to find a used low mileage one on the facebook group. It just showed up yesterday and I'll be installing it today. Having them side by side the one I had was more hacked together than I originally thought. Hopefully this helps my shifting issues. The old one had a lot of slop but couldn't be adjusted properly due to the repair. Also the end had been drilled through and the cable crimped on the outside of it, so it would pull when the throttle was opened but slid on the cable when closing.

Glad you found one.
That adjustment can be tricky to get right and is really important to proper transmission operation.
I adjust mine so all of the slack is gone and it is almost under a bit of tension; that's the best way I can describe it.
A bit of experimenting is sometimes required and the adjustments made can be very small to make quite a difference.

Good luck.

Good news! The TV cable fixed 90% of my tranny issues, specifically not wanting to downshift on deceleration occasionally. The shifts are still really harsh at low throttle, but at medium and WOT they are fine. It's had some tranny work done before I got it so I'm not sure exactly what they did while they were in there. Supposedly its got some sort of triple disc torque converter (I did see one of those gold JTSVP flex plates through the inspection cover but haven't verified the TC itself) and Red Eagle clutches, but I haven't verified that either. It does have the deep pan, and I just put in the updated/GM governor solenoid and transducer.

Is there a way to check if it has a shift kit installed? I have read something about people omitting a spring in there and it causing a harsh shift.

This is what the old TV cable looked like at the throttle body end, what a mess.

I originally posted this reply in the wrong thread, hopefully someone deletes it since I can't.

There is no "easy" way to determine if the tranny has a shift-kit installed without pulling the valve body apart. IF it has a harsh 1-2 it likely has a kit (or custom mods) to the valve body.

That cable was really mangled!

Under light throttle, what RPM does the 48RE usually shift? I mainly notice it with the 1-2 shift since thats when I'm trying to sneak through the neighborhood, but mine doesn't shift until 3500, and it is harsh enough to chirp the serpentine belt.

The kickdown cable is likely too tight for the road speed and engine rpm and could be the reason it is hanging on so long.

3500 with light throttle is abnormally high.

Your 1-2 shift could come in around 12-1500 with light throttle with everything setup properly.

You still have that plastic tab that slides down into place to lock the cable adjustment......right??

I’ll check that cable today. Do you mean the white clip on the TV adjuster? I do have it, the new used one was missing so I transferred it from my mangled one, that’s why it’s not there in the picture.

Ok great; Without that little bugger, the cable won't stay put!
The tension on the cable will determine light throttle shift points. With more throttle the tune and the governors themselves.

I did notice the output speed sensor was broken when I was down there yesterday too. I had checked it while driving previously and it was reporting, and the connector was still magically plugged in, but the sensor housing was broken so I have a new one coming.

Those systems all.work together with the ecu so hopefully your repairs will make things right.
