I think my slave cylinder for the clutch is shot. When I push the clutch pedal there is no resistance at all. How big a job is it to replace this? where can I get a new one? I can't drive the truck right now and spring is here so I have to fix it. Any advice/help?

I've called the dealership and they are saying the part is discontinued - I need to find a source for this part - any help would be appreciated

What’s happened to the helpful advice on this forum?

I guess you have checked the fluid, but yes the Viper master/ skave cylinders are considered an upgrade on these trucks.
Good luck.

Hey, I just had the same problem! Order one on roeracing, its an upgrade kit i believe from viper.

Transmission has to come off, its not really that bad of a job!

Try to bleed the cylinder while you wait for the NEW slave assembly.

Hey folks - thanks for the advice. I just got back from a business trip and will be looking at the truck next week. I'm going to try bleeding it first and go from there.
I'll post next week and let you know if bleeding it works.

Well, trying to bleed the cylinder didn't work. Fluid just pours out the bottom of the housing so the cylinder must be cracked!! Just hoping now that the clutch hasn't been contaminated with fluid! what are the chances of that happening? I couldn't get it to build up any pressure so it appears it is just draining out. I guess it's time to pull the tranny and get the parts and fix it properly so it doesn't happen again.

I'm doing the exact same thing right now too. this is my second time. I got the transmission out and back in in about 7 hours. advanced has the u joint strap kit for like 8 bucks every one else is asking at least 25 bucks. take apart in this order
drain tranny fluid,
drive shaft, go in side the truck remove the shift knob it screws on, then remove the cup holders 3 8mm bolts that should all slide up and over the shifter, then a dust cover with i think 8 8mm bolts, you can then see where the shifter connects to the tranny with 4 #6 allan key bolts remove those and then stuff a clean rag in the hole to keep debris out of it, wrap up that shifter end with a clean rag as well, disconnect the quick connect from the slave, un plug the 2 transmission sensors, you dont have to do this part but i did for extra room but disconnect all the o2 sensors. then remove the tranny from the mount by removing the 15mm bolts the 18 8mm on top of those are welded on so don't worry about those, then your bell housing bolts there are 10, support tranny with the tranny jack remove the tranny mount brace 18mm nut and bolt, remove tranny, then 1/2 inch bolts hold the slave in place use an open end wrench it's a weird angle to access them then put it all back together

orileys had the master cyl you have to go on eBay and order a luk master stl in you want the hose and AutoZone has the slave cyl

I don't reccomend doing the full viper slave "upgrade" because the master cyl won't work for it and it's a bit different I think it compresses differently.

I Have the Viper Upgrade from JMB. It comes with 2 shims. The slave is about a 1/4" short.... It works great with the centerforce clutch. Been in the truck 8 years but only 35,000 miles. GET THE BRASS SHIFTER BUSHING! takes all the slop out of the shifter! the plastic one will be gone......

Slitherbeast: do you have a P/N for the brass shifter bushing? I'm thinking of the RoeRacing Upgrade kit - plan is to keep the truck for a few more years and don't want to have to do this again. where is JMB Located? I'm in Canada but can ship it to my son's place in Detroit area.

Still wondering about potential clutch contamination - thoughts from anyone? I put fluid in - it just bleeds right out if I push the clutch pedal so I'm thinking that once it's expanded the fluid is draining straight down and the clutch friction plate should be fine. Probably won't really know until I take it apart no?

Roe Racing has the upgrade kit for $600 US. Supposed to come with complete instructions for installation - anyone use this before? Experience? Good/bad?
