I have a 05 Quad cab and I currently lost reverse gear so I decided to drive it to the parts store anyway and noticed it wouldn’t shift into 3rd gear also; besides the Governor solenoid and pressure transducer upgrade, what could be the problem? Thanks for any help!!!

When you pull the lever into "1", the valve body applies pressure to the Low/Reverse Band.
In other words, the BAND shares low and Reverse. If you get nor forward movement in "1", you have a band issue which is not uncommon.

This is different than when it is in D for Drive as it is going through a different circuit.

It sounds like you need a trans overhaul.

I don't know what your power level is and you may need some upgrades if it is higher than stock.
The 48RE can have (often does have) an issue with particles from band, clutch material and other debris.
For such a simple transmission, they can be quite a challenge to rebuild properly so it's necessary to have it rebuilt by someone who knows them well.

I get forward movement in 1 and drive. It just doesn't shift into 3rd when cruising and of course no reverse. I had a overhaul about 18 months ago, so I guess you're saying he might not of been my best choice. I am currently stock no bells and whistles.

Based on the above info, your transmission will require another tear down and overhaul.

I can't really comment on the specific failure as it could have been a defective part(s) and not the fault of the installer. (?)

My own 48RE would jam itself in 2 gears at once and create a "dynamic lift kit" where the whole truck would rise straight up and move ahead like it had a 383 for an engine.

Several guys I talked to said that wasn't possible but it managed to spin the planetary backwards and rip all of the locating pins off the housing (also not possible). So, apparently it was possible as evidenced by the facts. Odd things CAN go wrong = "Shit Happens".

I was just talking to my trans guy and he said your unit may have burned the direct clutches out as 3rd and Reverse use them.

The fluid will smell (and look) burnt.

Where are you located?
