No oil pressure and lots of lifter noise

So after 2 years of my truck sitting, I finally bought a low vacuum supercharger bypass valve to fix my running issues after installing a lumpy boost cam (for the record I had oil pressure after the cam install but not after starting up after sitting for 2 years). It started up after installing the bypass valve and had no oil pressure and tons of lifter noise. :mad:

Having thought my oil pump was cracked or shattered I pulled to the timing cover and ordered a new pump. upon removal of the gears it was clear that they were not cracked or shattered at all...

Cleaned out the housing thoroughly and cleaned the oil bypass valve up.

When installing the new gear I used the red engine assembly lube on both the gears and the bypass valve.

No noticeable shrapnel was found in the oil pan.

Any ideas?!

as stated, the engine had NO oiling issues or lifter noise after the cam install. only after 2 years of sitting in storage. it just so happens that i had installed a low vacuum supercharger bypass valve from kenne belle to use with my cam. (the reason it sat for 2 years).

Im curious if the pump dried out enough to no be able to pull oil up into it. the pickup tube was installed fine and the o-ring appears to be ok as well... my after market oil cooler is not plugged or have debris in it...etc
 
Did you check the oil filter ?
 
yes, initially thought that was the problem. did an oil change to confirm the oil was correct level and a good filter

After sitting for 2 years ,, how long did you run it when you started it ? I know I would have shut it down pretty fast hearing all the racket ... maybe it hadn’t run long enough to fill all the little areas and lifters etc. to quiet it down ? Scary to do !
 
My thought are if everything you have found appears to be fine .. no blockages, seals ok ,, filter ok , cooler ok ... then my ques would be the pump

Also ,, the by pass valve you stated you put grease on it ,,, I wouldn’t think it would affect it ... but maybe clean the grease and just use oil on it ...

Its engine assembly grease.... its meant for assembling internal engine parts and breaks down into the oil with heat...
 
I would pull the Oil bypass valve and see if it is stuck open. Not allowing oil to pressurize in the engine.... Hookup a hose to the oil pressure sending unit threads and direct the hose to a pail. start the engine and see if it is pumping. It may have an air lock.

That was my point .. breaks down in oil ... with heat ... did it run long enough to melt it down ?
 
Pretty much it appears you have checked everything in the oil system and it appears everything is in working order ... the pump gears possible worn excessively ! It’s the only thing I can see that you haven’t checked or verified .....
 
The oil pump is driven directly by the front of the crank.
If he has NO oil pressure in his engine, there is a major internal hemorrhage going on somewhere.
If it is full of oil and the pickup is clear and the pump is turning with the crank, it WILL pump oil.
Even if it the pump was worn, it would build some pressure.
If for some reason however, the pump relief assembly is stuck wide open, there would be very little resistance to flow and the system would be unable to build enough oil pressure.

I'd be looking there.
