Is there any special step needed with our trucks with flushing the coolant system and refilling I was just gonna drop lower hose them refill and bleed.

The way I have always known to flush a cooling system it to remove the thermostat and bolt the housing back on .. run the truck for the specified time with the recommended flush chemical.
Drain it , using the radiator petcock , then remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator , remove the radiator cap and put your water hose in it to fill and start the engine .. it will circulate through the entire cooling system and flush out all the chemical flush and garbage unrestricted .. the exit point is the the disconnected upper radiator hose so be sure it pointing in a safe direction to avoid water being sprayed all over you or the engine etc ... add an extension to the hose if you want ... once the water looks clear coming out .. hook the upper hose back on the radiator.. open the petcock and let the rest drain ,, close the petcock and reinstall a new thermostat.. then add the proper coolant, start the engine marking sure you keep topping off the coolant level , you need to at least run it to operating temperature so the thermostat opens .. once all looks good and full .. put the cap back on and bleed the rest of the air from the system using the bleeder screw ..

I use the bottom hose but your way sounds more efficient a little bit

More time consuming.. bit always worked for me ...
the other option is to buy one of those reverse flush kits that has an adapter that fits in the radiator fill hole ...Walmart , auto parts stores should have them ...... still the thermostat should be removed to get un restricted flow

Open heater to max heat to get all the air out When you get heat you will know the air is purged from the system
