So I noticed a noise that sounded like low tranny fluid today. Turns out it's my power steering pump, low on fluid. Why is it low? Because somehow the F'ing cap is broken...magically. It appears the dip stick broke/came loose from the cap. Here's the kicker, NONE of the parts stores in my area carry a new cap. Ya'll have any ideas on what I can do??? The fact that the radiator fan runs off of the pump, has me concerned the most.

Thank you Kiwi! I guess I can just keep an eye on the fluid level while I wait for it to come in.

I buy a lot of parts off Rockautos. I had a 68 Buick Riviera, Jeep Cherokee/Liberty, BMW 330 and even a SAAB 9-3 and they usually had what I needed and at the best price and selection of brands

Well, RockAuto is sold out of the caps. I did find a place that sells them, finally. Cost 22.50 for the cap, and since I need it so badly, I put rush on it, so that was another 15.00. One hell of an expensive cap, LOL. So it turns out, the center piece of the cap popped off, the yellow part. I poured almost a whole bottle of fluid in to get it to full. I stuffed a small piece of shop rag in the hole in the cap to keep it from splattering everywhere in my engine compartment.

Wow I looked yesterday and they had a price. Oh well snooze ya loose. Sorry about that
Are you using your beast as a daily runner?
Me too but today that is going to change

You will be back on the road before you know it with a new high-tech spring-loaded power steering pressure-release cap!

Turn your wheel all the way left and then all the way right a couple of times to get all the air out then re-check the level.

I'd suggest doing this while stopped (or at least in an empty (remote) parking lot if you insist on driving).

Having had bad luck with a "lifetime power steering hose", I've run my system down pretty low and it still works just fine. They are reasonably reliable.

If the hydraulic fan system packs it in, it's the same system used on: 2010 Dodge Journeys 3.5 and 2.4 L as well as 2006 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 or a 4.7 L. So it isn't like it's unique to the SRT-10s if it was, it would be thousands of dollars. ;)

Kiwi:

What?!?!?

NO LONGER a DAILY DRIVER Wudddup with dat???
Off to buy 2 cheap work hacks. a 2002 Citroen 2l diesel and maybe a 2007 Citroen C4 diesel as well both very low milage about 35k
Cheap to run effortless super reliable etc.

Good to know, thanks! I've thought about going with the electric fan that's advertised on JTS Venom. You think it's worth it?

Yep, did the wheel turning exercise, with the truck in park of course, LOL. Here's something odd. On Tuesday I had the speed shop do a radiator flush, and install a 170° thermostat. It takes a bit for it to get up to temp, but the temp is 205°! It doesn't get any higher than that, but it's not the 170° I was wanting. I checked the fluid level, made sure the fan is working. I did have some air in the upper hose, so I vacuum sucked the air out. Still at the temp. I also noticed there's a bleeder valve on the block where the thermostat housing is, I'm assuming it's also for bleeding the air out, right? Doesn't look like it has been loosened in years. I called the shop, they have another thermostat coming. Other than a faulty, or incorrectly boxed thermostat from the vendor, what else should I be looking at?

You might trip a check engine light (code P1281) with a 170 thermostat. The system thinks the engine is running cold.

Your Tuner dude can get rid of that OR you can put a piece of tape over the Check Engine Light.

A 170 wont keep it at 170 unless it can. All it means is it OPENS at 170.
Yeah, I know what you're talking about. My prior joy, 05 SLT QC, I had a lower 'stat installed, and I noticed that. However, she managed to be somewhat lower than normal. I'm in nasty hot Ga, so cooler is better...for me at least.
