Hood Insert Removal? (vent/screen)

Heyo! Does anyone have a video (or instructions) on how to remove the hood screen? The previous owner of my truck painted it a fading matte red color, and I would like to pull it off to return it back to the normal color, but when I look at the diagram online it looks like some of the hardware is one-time use (for lack of a better word?) fasteners and that I may not be able to remove the screen from the scoop without having a new set of those stock fasteners?

Those pushnuts can be thread off the plastic post. Use the right size socket (10mm I believe) and a fork trim tool That fits around the post and has enough surface area to push up on the nut. If you don’t have one of those use a small screw driver with a wide tip, it’ll be harder but can be done. Slip the fork trim tool or small screw driver under the nut and apply outward pressure as you twist out the nut with the socket. Do it slowly and be patient, you should be able to reuse them if you did it right because you created a thread on the post upon removal to re-secure them.
 
If your didn’t come with the pushnuts use a some small needle nose pliers to gently pinch the push washer and just twist it out. Again do it slowly, and be patient. If you do it right, you should be able to reuse them.

Anyone know the part numbers of these two missing fellas? Looks like the previous owner left me two short when he took it off to paint :(

it’s the 4 bolts that hold the whole piece on the hood. Actually on second thought, I don’t think I noticed this when I was under there, but it looks like he broke 2 of the posts off. Uh oh.

Mine was cracked to hell and back. I bought a new insert from The Viper Store. Cost a pretty penny, but it comes with the nuts and everything. All that has to be done is have a paint shop match your color with the VIN, and install it. FYI, use some of the 3M double sided foam tape and apply it to the fwd section of the scoop, prior to installation. It will help keep if from flying off at high speeds.

Nice! Do you remember how you put it back in? It looks like you slide the back end (with the screen) into the hood first at a slide downward angle and then push UP on it to engage the 3 retainer clips, and then push DOWN on the front end of the scoop to engage those 4 retainer clips.

Sorry, I had left the truck at the body shop, and they installed the scoop. Your method sounds correct though. Just remember to add a thin layer of the double sided tape on the front side, gives it more security from flying off at 180 mph...

Those things break off all by themselves .. sooner or later ... then the whole scoop insert flies off smashing into your windshield and breaking it into pieces that you’ll never find .. ask me how I know . Then the part cost around 300$ for the same cheap ass plastic . It’s called rinse and repeat .. will happen again ..
would relay like to see someone come up with a more perm. solution to the cheap scrap .because this in the pic looks like shit .. but functional to keeping the water out and hasn’t flown off yet .

Just did mine as it flew off at 130mph. I made some fibreglass posts and screwed into them with self tappers, penny washers and loctite. Yes I did use silicon adhesive on leading edge too.
To remove the scoop undo threaded speed nuts first, then push the leading edge up until that unclips then slide scoop forward to unclip rear. To install, fit rear clips into position then push front edge down with silicon adhesive in place. Lastly do the screws up. I had to make new pads as the plastic was broken off, some at the base. Pads need to be tapered toward the front edge

That looks pretty good! And that one that TrailMix posted looks like a viable option as well.

What I ended up doing was buying two of the aftermarket china versions of eBay and painting one Satin Black, and one a more Matte High Heat Black, since my whole hood will need repainting soon anyways. Those actually came with all of the hardware, so I just used high temp black sealant (my truck is black) and sealed this baby up when installing, along with adding some sealant/adhesive to the underside mounts. I went with the Satin Black one for now and I actually like the one piece design better than the OEM version....so far haha
 
Here’s how it came out. Not bad for a $27.00 part compared to the crazy price of the OEM and other aftermarket options.

Love the grill lights. What brand are they? It also looks like you have the Oracle head and fog lights, I'm thinking about get those as well.

The lights in the grill are these from Yorkim, but it looks like the ones I bought from them are sold out because it was the option with the Red Halo, and I only see a yellow or blue option left in stock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SPM4HFP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I WISH I had the oracle lights, but these halo headlights are the ones that came with the truck and I'm actually taking them off in the next week or two once my new ones get here, and I am going to sell these.
