Hold the phone! You're telling me that my 05 has aluminum covers? Somehow I was under the impression that they were magnesium. As for the stainless steel letters, I would assume they have some sort of king kong super adhesive that won't melt at engine temp.

Nothing says mesmerizing like a magnesium rim in full blaze. It literally started melting into the deck, until the deck crew were able to push it over the side of the ship. Interesting to say the least.

We had thin strips at school once upon a time and were allowed to set them on fire.

Gen III Valve Covers are Aluminum, yes.
Gen II are Magnesium.

Viper letters stay put and use a heat resistant "King Kong" adhesive. They stay shiny over time.

We too set magnesium strips on fire in school. We also played with liquid Mercury in our hands (not necessarily at the same time).

Yeah, I foolishly played with mercury in my hands as well. Must be why I'm not some brainiac CEO of a company...

WITH the teacher, in Grade 8, we performed after-school "experiments" on white mice (50 cents at the local Woolco store).

You would be immediately incarcerated for performing those experiments today.

My, my, how things have changed.

I'll agree with the kibosh on playing with Mercury though.
Someone was actually thinking there...

The secret is only a very small amount spread very thin. Otherwise it is overpowering....disgusting.
It is also a mean trick Aussies play on unsuspecting tourists, load it up and watch the reaction. Not nice....we lived there 8 years and ah yeah they are not nice people. Still way too many bad habits from their convict heritage. Lying, cheating, stealing is part of their culture. Such a shame, the genuine nice people over there get shit on.

Great adventure, I would not change a thing. I do have some Aussie mates, I accept them how they are, would I lend them money no. Na I probably would. But anyway I see each country/ State as it is and enjoy the common things and the differences. I don't have to like all of it. I do like getting to understand why things are they way they are and how come the food is what it is, the customs, terminology, slang, accents etc. The big thing is history, learn it, appreciate it, but don't use todays measure stick to condemn it. I find history fascinating even tho I know stuff all about it. If we don't like part of our history then learn from it so we don't repeat it. The worst thing we can do is laugh at other countries/cultures and history. Just respect that is the way it is/was. I am sure there's a truck in there somewhere. :burnout:

A company called "Appliance" made white headers back in the early 70's that looked pretty cool. Unfortunately they were spray-bombed (not powder-coated), were made of mild steel (NOT stainless) and showed off the " grimy black-hand" installation markings.
They looked nice for a week or so until the paint burned off and rust spots started showing up on the bare steel. Ceramic coating is WAY tougher.

SLITHERBEAST: Ditto with the steering bolt whacking the #3 primary tube. A wee bit of grinding solved the issue. The twisted flange on #5 required a bolt extender to turn it into place (almost). It was not unexpected but disappointing what with laser-guided measuring systems, precision CNC machining and 3-D printed burgers

I'm getting ready to buy a used set from X2 Builders in a few weeks, and they also said they were aluminum. They also sent me some photos, and the bare spots are tarnished like they are aluminum.

Interesting.. I have a pair too and when I tap them.. they seem to feel like Mg and not AL.

Plus, is AL such a bear to strip and powder coat? I have heard and seen these almost wash away with a light sand blasting.
AMS3 are you going to strip and re-paint or PC?

My Gen 2 valve covers reacted to vinegar (one test for magnesium).
My Gen 3 valve covers did not (aluminum).

I hope this issue dies soon.

It started in UK they have Marmite and Vegemite and there will be some other variations as well.
I am surprised it is not in Canada. It is very good for you. A good winter top up of essentials
