I forget who was talking about the bands being adjusted, but they also mentioned replacing the stock solinoid? I think. Mine's acting up in first gear, can I get someone who's savvy to the automatic, to give me some tips and parts to replace please.

    Define "acting up": ??

Band adjustments (2) places, VERY RARELY "fix" operational troubles (like shifting).
IF the Solenoid screen is jammed up with particulates, a new one (Like the GM unit with a larger screen area) will also plug up in a very short time. You have to find the cause of the particles in the oil; like worn bands or clutches.

I know, I'm just full of great news! :)

The only way I can describe it, is sorta like it can't make up it's mind if it wants to shift into second at low speeds. It just started doing it this past week. I think it was SRT1065 who was talking about the tranny part to swap out to a larger one, but can't remember. I guess I could take the truck to a diesel tranny shop, and have them look at it.

That 1-2 hunting at low spoeds/low throttle is not unusual for the 48RE.
How does it shift at wot?

Squalls the tires and runs like a bat out of hell. I guess there's nothing wrong then. Yeah, it's just if I'm taking off like a grandma that it "stutters:". Recon I'll just have to stomp the gas when leaving off the line

    Augh.. The automatic transmission.
Even the modern 8 speeds from Germany/Fiat have their quirks.

If your having the same issues as this truck( https://www.vtcoa.com/threads/another-quarantine-day.69634/ ) had, I would do the following.

-adjust the front and rear bands
-replace governor pressure sensor with the bigger Borg Warner one
    -replace transducer
    -replace filter
    -replace atf/gasket

Ahh, I thought it was you Srt10650 who told me this previously, but wasn't sure. Thanks a bunch for the info again, I've taken a screenshot and sent it to my private email.

    "

Do you have a P/N for both of these items? Also, since I'm not an automatic tranny guru, is there a specific torque for the bands? Never delt with that before. I replaced the fluid and filter late last year, and the rear output shaft seal. One last thing, I'm partial to Amzoil for my engine, they also have a tranny fluid, would you recommend it?

Borg Warner 50185, I’ll try and find one for the transducer. But you can google 48re Borg Warner solenoid kit and they usually sell them as a pair. Torque specs below in the picture, I believe JTSVP posted these years ago. As far as oil, I usually use Mopar ATF or Mobil 1 ATF. But the one that you mentioned should be fine.

Really appreciate the information on this, and the valve cover torque.

I found this kit. Will it work? Also, where is the harness and spring located on the tranny? Sorry for all the questions, I want to make sure I have the right stuff.

So I've got an appointment this Friday morning with a good tranny shop. The "stuttering" is getting a tad worse. I checked the fluid level, it's halfway between min and max on the stick. That wouldn't cause what I'm experiencing would it??? Please advise.

Fluid level checks ok per what you mentioned and that shouldn’t be your issue. Let us know what they tell you?

So the tranny shop took her for a drive, and the diagnosis is the governor pressure sensor, like you said. And they use the Borg Warner sensor like you mentioned. Waiting for the estimate for repair now, hopefully I can get it done this coming Friday.

Hopefully they’ll have you back on the road soon. While they’re in there I would have them also replace the transducer and adjust the rear band. And then adjust the front band on the outside. Let us know what they quote you? Parts list should be the following; Borg Warner Governor Solenoid, transducer, transmission pan gasket or RTV , transmission filter and about 9-11 quarts of transmission fluid. Parts should be roughly about $200- $220. Don’t know how long they’re going to take or what they’re hourly rate is? I’m usually done in about an hour max and that’s including a few beers.

Parts and fluid $256.93 and labor $189.00. A bit high, but this shop is highly recommended by car enthusiasts in this county, and neighboring counties. They will start on it at 0800, hopefully no more than an hour or so. The lobby is closed, due to Covid, so I either have to sit outside, or find a diner close by to while away the time. I'll mention the other items you suggested as well.

Parts is a little high, but I don’t know how accessible the parts are where your at. Labor price sounds about right. Let us know how it goes.
