So I went to the auto store to get a new battery, and was talking to the tech about my K&N "Cold Air" intake. It was already on the truck when I bought it, and didn't think much about it. He told me that it's actually a "Hot Air" intake, since it's sucking in the eng comp heat. Makes sense. He told me the factory is better. My question is, is it better, and does it actually have a tube that connects to the fender well cutout, which would allow it to draw ambient air in from the front of the truck? Any advise is welcomed.

Thanks Ronnie, now to find the complete system...
Anybody on here have the complete setup with brackets they might want to sell???? Having trouble finding one on the internet.

Ronnie and I had my truck on the dyno several years ago. I did a test with the K&N diesel cone drop in filter and the K&N flat drop in filter. The diesel cone filter produced 1HP more than the flat.

AMS3, if you find a stock set up, make sure the gasket on the filter box inlet from the fender is good, or you will suck in hot under hood air.

Thanks for the heads up. I still haven't found one...

So X2 Builders has one that's complete with brackets. How would you mount a cone filter on it?

The K&N drop in cone filter was actually made for the Cummins Diesel, but it works for our application. If you do a search here on the forum, the part number should pop up.

I found this P/N in one of the forums from 2012, and searched it. Does this look like it? upload_2020-12-14_6-25-32.png

LOL! Well I got my air box and tube from X2 Builders yesterday, and now see what needs to be trimmed.

I did mine in 2008...memory is a little foggy, but if I remember it’s the inlet for the tube from the valve cover vent. I know there is something in the way on the inside of the box!
