My Volant CAI

Hey Kiwi SRT10, have you checked your IAT sensor reading after doing this? I just installed a Volant. They are about $350 now. My truck came with the JMB intake and was worried about the IAT because it was hitting 150 in traffic and its 35F here! I tried moving the IAT sensor to the air filter, which helped the IAT go way closer to ambient while moving.

When I installed the Volant, I put the IAT back in the usual place. Its much better now but my IAT wont go below 80F and start climbing as soon as I stop. It slows down around 108F. Im going to move the IAT away from the radiator and see what happens. Im thinking about blocking the front facing air box window because it probably sucks up heat from the radiator. It doesnt seem like much hot air escapes through the hood scoop. I might do hoods vents for that...cheers!

I have heard a few stories about CAI's. Good bad or otherwise mine is here to stay.
After closer inspection and thinking a bit about it I have removed the dorky looking snorkel that blocks the OEM hood scoop and capped the hole in the box. Now the OEM hood scoop can do what it was designed to do ie let cold into the engine bay while travelling keeping the bay temp down and letting the heat out at standstill. There are 2 holes in the Volant CAI, the front one about 4" square out behind grill and a large hole to the OEM inner guard hole. More than enough cold air available. Is it better than other makes??? Dunno but that is what was on mine when I bought her and that will be staying there. If you are like me and inherited this then do what I have done and at least make it easy to check the oil lol Did you know that these beasts are 5 mph faster in Right Hand Drive hahaha

Kiwi i forgot your 10 is RH lol!!!! Looks cool though!!!

NZ has no snakes .....In fact nothing here can kill you except Darwin's Law.
Say who are the guys in your picture, you and brother??? famous Canadians maybe....local Mormon chapter that come visit?
LOL
There is one now in NZ with 4 legs and pumping out 500hp tamed by Kiwi. Surprisingly in Denver, no poisonous serpents until you get into the foothills then you deal with the rattlers.

There are no perfect intakes, all of them have issues. Hot air build up when stopped, dramas at high speed, debris in not so ideal driving conditions, even monsoon type rain. It is more about making the best set up for your individual climate, conditions of operation etc and them most of all how cool it looks lol

The OVERALL BEST intake is the stock cold air feed with a drop in K&N filter. I have seen all the trouble members go through to improve on an already excellent air intake. When drawing from the right inner fender via air "scoop" in right front grill block off you even get a "slight" ram effect. Keep in mind, when the IAT rises above 104 degrees, your ECU pulls timing and out goes the boat anchor! Here in Arizona, I always observed about 6 degrees above ambient at road speed with the stock system and full heat soak. ;)

Cheers!

I'm replacing my K&N aftermarket with the stock airbox. Bought the cone drop in filter, P/N E-0775. Had to trim the scoop inside the box to make it fit. Just waiting for the PB Blaster to work on the frozen mount nut that's attached to the radiator cross member.

Finally put some 100+ octane fuel in the tank today (94+ in USA) Put my bad boy tune in, courtesy of Torrie, and left the laptop plugged while I went for a drive. Oh Boy I had forgotten how bad that was. With the VCM Suite there is too much for me to look at. I just watch, I do not meddle.
On the road IAT temp was 3degC above ambient. Goes up in traffic at lights to about 10degC above ambient. Todays ambient was 18degC
The faster/harder I went the closer to ambient it got ....but then after 120mph I decided it was not a good idea to look at the laptop as things go real bad real quick.
What I also saw was the wider open the throttle was the cooler the intake air was.
By no means a scientific experiment with factual gospel results but I am happy to see the IAT is in a good space. More a general idea of what is going on.
Peace of mind for me, that's all.
Dyno work would have it's own problems with un-natural air flows etc or lack of. I can see possible hot IAT's being a problem there.
I know, how about a Dyno in a wind tunnel. Speed linked to air speed that would fix a lot of issues except for the poor tuner having to work on it at 120mph hahaha:eek::D:p

It was on there when I got and it will stay on there as these results are similar if not the same as Psycho1122 reported above.
If you have a stock intake put the K&N drop in filter in it. Why waste money? Unless you have too much ....then you could always help a poor broken ass Kiwi to tidy up his beasto_O:D
Monitor of fuel use on the highway at WOT could show which intake worked best in the real world...now that is an idea
The intake that flowed the best would also ask for the most fuel....maybe. (input/ideas anyone)
The Injector volume is on the VCM Scanner on the laptop and ignition timing etc
