Been putting off a major tune-up as catching up on some bills and our two major purchases last October. Which actually I had scheduled a tune-up with my friendly Dodge dealership but went test riding two days before and ended cancelling that appt.

But at 97K miles it was past due plus I already had the parts on hand. Champion RC plugs, MSD plug wires, screamin' demon coil packs, lower billet pulley/belt and All-Pro manifold gaskets..most of which I got from JTSVP. Plus I added on an oil change and tire rotation since as it was already in the shop.

With a 10% off discount coupon..it all came to $585.00 with tax..I can live with that plus added a few more HP in the process.

I can't help you there. I have only 17,342 miles on my 2006, RAM SRT-10. Keep us in you loop as the project progress. It would be good to know the hp and torque before and after the tune-up.

So is there a big difference between the regular K&N drop on filter and the K&N cone style? Looking to change mine come spring.

No, if you have one or the other, either on will work.

On some back to back to back testing we did a number of years ago, the nod went to the cone-style drop in for one horsepower or so but that is a tiny amount to measure on a chassis dyno.

I still don't know how to edit a post and I forgot to emphasize we are comparing DROP IN Filters here and not the K&N under-hood kit that uses a cone-style filter.

I know lots of guys seem to like their K&N filter KITS and it was my very first mod after buying my truck new in 2005.

Mine measurably lost power (A-B-A dyno pulls) and had a weird sound like valve float at wide open throttle so I took it off and sold it.

Not a bad deal at all. At least you didn't have to cuss like a sailor, the mechanic probably did though, LOL.

Thanks. I'm wanting to keep the factory air box. I read that you have to do a little trimming on the factory air box to run the cone filter?
About a month ago, I took off the aftermarket K&N and got the stock airbox from X2 Builders. I bought the drop in cone style as well. You will have to trim the upscoop that's in the airbox, or else the filter won't fit. Trim a bit at a time until it fits properly, don't go hog wild with it. I had to trim my down to where there was about an inch of the scoop left. I used a dremel tool with cutting wheel to do mine. But then again, it wasn't in the truck at that time. Took about 5 minutes to trim, and remove all the shavings.

You can do for less but it requires some creativity to remove plenum. I did the same and I also replaced the coil packs with screaming demon packs from summit. Please note the plug on coil has to be modified mildly to fit.

Yes it does

What has to be modified? I've been thinking about getting those coils as well.

The plugs that go onto the coils. 1 of them has the ribs in the wrong place, so some careful trimming needs to be done.

Also you must open up the spark plug gap otherwise it is a complete waste of money. The whole point of more power is to jump a bigger gap to burn more of the fuel mix....
It sounds good to me and worked very well on my old Riviera but that was on points and condenser with a 28 thou gap. Opened that to 50thou. Had to slow the idle down twice while timing her up. I didn't notice anything on the truck as it is all done by computer and o2 sensor. At speed I am too busy hanging on. It can be down right scary on NZ roads Ya get messed up real quick!

What did the parts cost at JTSVP? I know the dealer would be way up in the roof.

When you have 5 power strokes on EACH side of the long crank, the benefits of plug indexing is HUGE!

When I gave my RC "The Tune", Indexing was paramount when I replaced the plugs. Tell me, what does 1-2% on this engine add up to?!? :D
