Considering a conversion to E85

Trainman is considering converting to E85, has any one had any dyno results on an NA engine, no power adders.? I will then use C85 at the strip.
 
Varies depending on setup and tune.
NA benefits less than boosted.
Sometimes no peak horsepower gains but 10% or more under the curve compared to say C16 race fuel.
Uses considerably more fuel by volume.
A definite power gain over race fuel as the stuff is around 30% oxygen.
Tune comes into play and more timing "creates" more low and mid-range torque.
 
And of course the well known stuff like required changes to the fuel system (lines, pumps, fittings, injectors) as it is corrosive and picks up moisture.

The gain in power can be considerable though.
 
Naaaaah... Nuttin' to it.

Forced Induction vehicles love it because of it's cooling properties and make more power.
NA vehicles make more torque (under the curve) with sometimes zero increase in peak power BUT still more power.
Less BTU than gasoline and takes more of it.
LOTS of oxygen in E85 which engines love (ie. Nitrous Oxide style results).

Here is a short video of my 6speed manual CTSV ....no nitrous

That motor was a 416 ERL block, Trick flow 255 heads ported by Greg Good, ported LSA blower and a BTR stage 2 cam, about 800 at the wheels, but after some later runs I had 4 cracked cylinder walls.... so the new engine is almost done, 434 cubic inch, the same 255 heads , custom cam by 1LTZ on the CTSV forum, and a Kong 2650 blower ported by Greg Good, 112 TB....we expect over 1,000 RWHP.... should be fun, stand by.

Just so all of you know I haven't forgotten about my Viper buddies. The truck is in the shop, leaking power steering line, plus the CTSV engine build, restoring a 73 SD-455 Formula, 1 of 43, very rare, also finishing up a 2000 SLP Firehawk 430 inch LS1 with Mast 295 heads, and a Harrop Hurricaine intake, plus I'm looking for a 69 Road Runner to relive my early years...oh and I have a 64 GTO to restore......along with my 1st hobby of collecting toy trains (thus Trainman) since I got out of the Navy in 1968....over 1500 pieces and growing...so pretty busy in my retirement. Plus helping my daughter to learn how to race her 2019 Hellcat 6-speed Challenger I surprised her with on her birthday in August 2019, she was 45......and her first pass in her life she went 11.98!

I also have an HO train collection, some as old as 1965, just not as much as you. Is there a collector's value to these? Last engine I bought was probably mid 1970's. Still have all the track, buildings, cars, power packs etc. Just no place to set it up these days.

Good to hear from you, I was on the USS Ranger CVA-61, carrier. 1966-1968, Radarman 3rd class, Navy reserve. HO trains not quite as collectable as Lionel and America Flyer toy trains. A lot of mine are from the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. If you have Brass engines they can be expensive. all are enjoyable, Most HO is more realistic than the toy trains, but I enjoy them all.

Yes quite a few trains, and I do have 1 HO brass Hudson by Westside. total collection over 1500 pieces.
