Hey guys, I was wondering, what causes severe rust or "panel rot" on 3rd gen Rams? My truck seems to be 99% rust-free, but I've noticed others aren't so lucky and have seen many 3rd gens with rusted out wheel wells, etc. I've even heard guys claim they keep their trucks clean as a whistle and this still occurs? Maybe the sheet metal used came from different suppliers and some were luckier than others?

It's possible one of the previous owners was from up north, and didn't take as good of care as the current owner.

Right on target. If the truck came from a state like Michigan where salt is used to clear the roads that is possible. I would not buy a truck from a state that uses salt on the roads. You can rust proof them and may still get rust in the wheel wells. This could also happen in the South Florida area where salt water get on the underside of your auto.
