Found this guy on Facebook a few weeks ago. Seems to be real popular with those of us who own SRT10's. It's all he does, and has some cool stuff. I'm thinking about getting the snake skin hood that has the larger scoop, and vents on either side of it. He does powder coating, and hydro dip. I'm sure some of you have heard of him, Scotty Forman.

Yea, most of us know “Scotty”.

So I was chatting with him over the weekend, and we were talking about oil. He highly recommends Mobile One 15/50. I told him I use Amsoil 0/40, and he told me to stop using it. Thoughts?

Scotty banned me from his Facebook group the other day as he said Amsoil is trash, I challenged him on it, and without having a discussion he booted me lol. Turns out he's banned on here.

Anyways Amsoil Signature Series is good oil. I haven't come across any information on here, SRT10forum, or ViperAlley reporting Amsoil is insufficient for these engines. I have not heard of Amsoil being trash on any other car fourm either (I'm a car collector so I'm on many sites). Plenty of independent oil forums and labs also agree it's quality oil.

Now what I'm not sure about is if Amsoil oil filters can reliably handle oil pressure of these engines. I know Mobile 1 specifically markets their Viper oil filters as, "high burst rating" and many people just use Mopar filters for peace of mind against ruptures.

If you're worried about 0w-40 not being thick enough, Amsoil does offer 5w-50 in their Signature Series. Advanced Auto Parts also has a good oil filter and oil bundle going on with Mobile 1 synthetic and a $15 gift card, you can find it on the website (unfortunately not for 50 weight oil).

I believe oil(s) will continue to be a topic of discussion for years to come.

I use a Mobil 1 0-30 (down from 0-40) because my oil pressure was high after the latest rebuild.

0-40 was used (factory-fill) so the Gen III could pass emissions (which it barely did) by "making" the camshaft profile smaller at idle (by collapsing the lifters), which did the trick for testing and is also why these engines clatter like they do.

Over the last 60 years, I can't say I've ever had a "bad experience" with any engine oil from any manufacturer.

Like makes of cars, trucks, lawnmowers, boats, sleds, motorcycles, etc; I think it comes down to whatever you have had good luck with.

Engines don't "require" thick oil for any reason unless they are totally bagged smoking pieces of crap and the owner would like it to smoke/use less.

Heavier oils and hence higher oil pressure does rob an engine of power and fuel economy which is why manufacturers use the light stuff; same with trucking fleets, submarines and anyone else paying attention.

Motor-On Gearheads!! :)

Thanks for the input JB. Had no idea Scotty was banned from here, and sucks he banned you for your opinion. I too use the Signature Series and a Mopar filter, with no issues.

Thanks Ronnie. I figure if I go with what Dodge recommends, I can't go wrong. What if I bumped it to 5/40, would it help the lifters quiet down a tad?

Scotty was banned on FB too.. then he made his own FB group.. which he kicks everyone of out in fear they are talking junk about him on the main SRT-10 group. Knows his stuff.. but can be a hot head.
Good Luck! :)

How is Scott still in business? I'm not just jumping on the "hate Scotty" bandwagon, to this day I have never been screwed over harder by anyone else like I was by Scott. I had and have no reason to be opinionated other than how badly my interactions were with him. Timeliness, quality of product, and financial over gouging were all horrendous experiences with this guy. Sorry... old wound that still hasn't healed.

Thanks for the info!
