There is a 1953 chevy 5 window pickup down the street from me. The person has had it sitting at their gate trying to sell for some time. The truck doesnt appear to have anything other than surface rust. Its stripped down and the typical brown/orange color. In talking with a kid that knows the people they kept it in their barn and out of the weather. Originally they had been asking $1200 OBO, today when I drove by it was $900 OBO. No glass in the truck at all, this may be a hard find? I doesnt have an engine and im not sure of a tranny. I dont care much for working on engines with rear distributors so it wouldnt put a chevy in it anyhow. Seems to me that unless its a damb rust bucket $900 is a good deal? I will get some pics tomorrow, I wanted to see what you all think.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I'm working on a '52 three window. I'm putting a Chevy 350 4 bolt that I built guided by a magazine article that should be putting out close to 400hp. I'll be backing it with a 700R4 built to handle it. The 700R4 has a great first gear and the overdrive for highway. With a 3.73 rear gear, I didn't want to be turning 2500 rpm at 60 mph. I'm putting disc brakes all the way around too.

You should be able to find the glass. Lots of specialty places catering to the old iron. My project is currently stripped down to the frame as I relocate springs and weld in the front independent suspension. Just pick up a Classic Trucks Magazine and start ordering catalogs. Your limited only by your imagination.

Those little trucks are really cool. I had one in Colorado... It had a 3 on the tree and would always pop out of third..... The person who owned it before me had a bungee cord attatched to the bottom of the seat to hold it into gear.....

It was brick (primer) red...... I loved that old truck....

D

yeah i got a 1964 c100 i am hoping to start rebuilding next summer but it was free wife's fathers first truck that they kept

take some pics and inspect the amount of rust .. floors etc cab corners i might have a buyer

I wish I still had mt Dad's old 62 Step side!

He spent two years doing body work and painting it. When he finished it was fire engine red with Gold pinstriping, white Western Mags, and the crushed velour bench out of a 78 Delta 88 Royale. It was beautiful!! He moved the 4 on the column to the floor, and painted the interior to match the outside. Had a 327 (if I remember right) and ran like a top!

Wish I hadn't been deployed to Sigonella when he had to sell it!:( He sold it to a friend's nephew for about $1500! Then the kid was parked on the shoulder of the highway helping a stranded motorist when a drunk came over the hill and absolutely creamed the truck! No one was hurt, but the truck was finished...:(

Buy it, fix it up, those are great old trucks!!

my first vehicle was a 51 5 window, that me and my dad restored i gave 500 for it in 1983 we had to cut the trees down to get it out of the woods. ran it for a year with the original motor then put a 350 with a turbo 400 behind it. ive got some pics somewhere ill have to post it up.

when finninshed they are worth some cash, a buddy of mine is building one has bought 4 trucks to make one

Bout the price it should be things were running high as everyone was thinking old +$ now the prices are starting back down . At that stage do plan on spending some $$$$$$$$$ .Sheeeeeeesh whats this shit about rear distrib's ,,,if you put a POS forD motor in there I will drive over and bitch slap U ,,,hell just do a late engine ,they aint got no distributor :p
Anything you need I prob have or can get .Watch for rust as that will get far more costly than most other things on it

I have a friend with a '49 chevy truck. I'v been trying to talk him out of it for over two years now. Maybe someday he'll sell it. I really need another project like I need a hole in my head. I allready have a '50 olds coupe rocket 88, and a '56 buick special riveria with only 4,560 original miles on it. But, it need paint and chrome.
